What’s the life of a person worth?
What would one not do to save a life? I am talking about a physical life? It’s not something that can be calculated by most people. So, how in the world can we say what we’d be willing to pay to have a person give their life to Jesus publicly? Notice I didn’t say “follow” Jesus which is the most important thing. I am just asking what one might pay to have something “think” they might want to follow Jesus. Forget all of that, let me tell you what it has cost- the actually costs for a Christian salvation in America.
Would you believe $1,551,466 per salvation?
Barrett and Johnson did an analysis in 2000 of the costs to run all churches in America for the year (that had to be an interesting job) and then compare that to the number of reported salvations by those same churches for the year. And then you have to ask yourself, how many of those “reported salvations” were real. In other words, how many would say three years later that they were striving to at least follow Jesus?
Probably very few.
It’s obvious to me that we’re doing something very wrong. Exactly what that is I don’t know; however, I am trying to find the answers, not just describe the problem.
How about you?
