Our History

This sounds like a really strange question coming from a Christian, but I’ve been asked it, in some form or another, over the last 2-3 weeks. For everyone who is NOT a Christian, it sounds like a logical question, followed by a “why not?” So, what’s this controversial question?

“Why should I know about the HISTORY of the Bible”?

Lost Sight

How much TIME do you have?

We ALL have the same twenty four hours for each day: the same 1,440 minutes. And we’ve lost sight of how valuable each of those minutes are or can be. Whatever time of the day you read this, go back twenty four, twelve, or eight hours and ask yourself just how much of what you did in that time frame was really important?

What’s Available

There’s a big difference in resuscitation and resurrection!

And there is a big difference in the LIFE that the Bible says we can have and the life we lead. I doubt that few would disagree with either of my opening sentences; however, how many want CHANGE and are willing to do what is necessary to get them to match up? It was a resuscitation in Luke 7:11-15. It was a resuscitation when jesus called Lazarus forth from the grave in John 12:17. But the resurrection of Jesus Christ who now sits at the right hand of God is a whole different thing! Those who were resuscitated eventually died: in the resurrection Jesus received a glorious body, as we will one day as well.

Intimacy

You can HEAR the entire Sunday message after Shawn posts it sometime Monday; however, I want to take tonight to add a few things I HEARD but did not SAY!

John 8:32 offers us what we’re all looking for, but we feel (as they did) that we an do it our way, even though Jesus reminds us that it can only be done His way! We are a nation that has it all. Or, so it would seem. Compared to the rest of the world, what we have seems almost unimaginable and unattainable.

Living by comparison can be dangerous!

God Loved Them All

As I sat in my “out door get away” today, I was hearing lots of things. Three dogs were seeing how loud they could bark a few houses away. Birds would come from time to time to inhabit the trees over my “hideout” until they would spot one of my movements, and then they too moved- away! It’s was cooler than I thought and as I was wrapping my arms around me, I HEARD something else.

Questions!

The Segue

What do you do with PhD in engineering, working as a sociologist?

It’s not joke! And I have not a clue as to what the answer is. My question is really WHY are you a sociologist if you spent all that time and money to get a post-graduate degree in engineering? Okay, let’s get a little more realistic then. Why are you working in the job that you are now in when you know it’s not what you really WANT to do? Now, I’m getting personal t’aint I! So, why do 67% of those in the American work force feel they should be doing something else?

The New Covenant

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He came to reveal the Father!

As that verse in Hebrews says, He is the “exact representation” of the Father. In terms of the Trinity, He IS the Father: He and the Father are ONE! Minds can’t quite get a grip on that. Only in one’s spirit can you taste a little of it. Many protestant denominations are quick to put down others that believe you aren’t saved unless you speak in tongues! The mantra is, “It’s Jesus alone, not Jesus plus tongues”. And then those same people and denominations fall on their own sword, by insisting that this or that thing, this or that story, this or that incident must be a fact or else nothing is a fact: everything is invalid.

Choose This Day

Is this going to be just another year like the ones before?

I submit to you that there are three options or answers that one can give. For those that fate has smiled down on, luck, chance, fate, or whatever, the question is why should I? Some people have blessed genes, good looks, great hair, creamy complexions, and the right parents who saw to it that they got a college degree. These people are doing well and the thought of changing life isn’t appealing. You probably know someone like this. Living in America, the odds are that you ARE one of them! But, there’s nothing wrong with discussing the “what if’s” of something different.
