Here we come 2006!
But the real question is, will 2006 be any different than 2005? Was 2005 any different than 2004? Will you make those annual New Year resolutions to only totally forget them by the end of the month? Is there more to your “thoughts” for 2006 than losing weight, working out more, watching your diet, making more money, being nicer to people, getting more sleep, and just making it to December 31st- again?
Is this year really going to be different? If it is, then YOU will have to CHANGE! Don’t ask for anyone else to change: they are not in your functional scope of authority, but you clearly are. The only person we have any hope of influencing is ourselves. And, that is no easy job as you well know.
One of the great tragedies is that we think if we’ll just read one more book (I’m not against reading- I’m all for it for the right reasons) or somehow follow the right formula that all will be well. We can be as bright as Stephen Hawking, as courageous as the coal miners in in Tallmansville, W. Virginia, and as well-intentioned as the United Nations, but miss the reality of life.
Life’s journey is about transformation! Us not being us. The false self that came into the world giving way to the true self which is more spirit than material. But how does one break out of that mold- and go there? For some the pain is so great, the bills are so high, and the pressures of the world so immediate that one has no time for such lofty ideas like transformation (so we think). For a few, life is so good that they think they have found nirvana. For those few, that things are good, thoughts of better, or best isn’t really a motivating factor.
I truly began the transformation process in 2005. Granted, I made changes in my life in almost every year: human changes. The year 2005 was one wherein the Spirit of God made changes for me. How? I wish I knew, for sure. I just know it started and I know 2006 will be greatly changed because that which He began in earnest in ’05, He is faithful to finish!”
We close out 2005 and usher in yet another year. I want to use my commentary today to thank all who have read, responded, and given me feedback over the year. Until this year, this web page was just there and maybe a dozen people visited it over the course of a week.
It wasn’t until around March that I felt I was “HEARING” things that I should share. Thus, Shawn Hesketh set up this commentary page, much like the daily one I do on Transformhouston.com. For whatever reason, we’ve gone from a dozen hits a week to more than 200 a day at times. And since we started monitoring the “hits”, the 3Q was 4,971 and the 4Q stands at 12,316 thus far. So, the audience continues to grow.

For the multitude that are graced with life, we have just two more days to make it to yet another year: 2006. It seems longer, but it was only this past January (23rd) that Johnny Carson died. He would be followed by such noted celebreties as: Johnnie Cochran, Terri Schiavo, Pope John Paul II, General Westmorland, Peter Jennings, William Rehnquist, and Richard Pryor to name a few. One year, our names will be added to the departed. And what will they say about you, me, us?

Don’t you wish there were some formulas for being holy, knowing God, understanding life, and living as spirit beings having a human experience? Well REJOICE because there are at least a dozen formulas for every aspect of life. There’s just one problem: they don’t work!
And yet the church continues to play follow the leader (the world) and we crank out yet another Seven Steps to the secular Seven Habits, and tens of millions of copies are sold: more millionaire writers are created. But wait (as the TV commentator tells us), BUY NOW and you can also get the Journal in addition for an eight dollar savings! What a place to live- America! I’m not making fun of any author, but we the public who have bought in to formulas that don’t, and can’t work.

Seek Him Again
I don’t remember who it was, but someone who understood humanity very well said, “There are so many things that we believe in life that simply are NOT true.” It’s bad when a person falls prey to self deception or is duped by someone over something minor; however, it is tragic when it comes to taking the bait on a life-changing proposition. The ultimate shame and harm though comes when a group does the damage.
