March 19, 2006 – When we realize that Jesus was fully human, as we are, our perspective on life changes. If we’re to do greater works than He did while He was yet human, when will that start? What’s not lining up in our lives that Jesus says we should be doing? Where are the “spirit experiences”?

Could it be that the institutional church is coming back to its founder?
And if that’s the case what will the church of the future look like: where are we going? Over the past fifteen months I have felt like a fish out of water grasping for water-air and finding neither. I’ve struggled with past teachings; however, when I’ve made the connection, my role as shepherd over a couple hundred people has brought even further agony. It’s one thing for me to grapple with spiritual concepts and life: it’s quite another to pass it on to others. Jesus felt the sting of rejection. What makes us think we can avoid it?

I have a sign on my grease board. It’s been there for nearly 20 years. It simply says and asks, “Where’s Jesus In It?”. I used to use the grease board as my “story board”. Something I learned while in the business world, from Walt Disney, many years ago. Once I had a sermon in mind, I’d go back and ask myself. Okay, where’s JESUS in this message? Now, I do it all on power point digital pages.
A month ago or so I read a book by Rick McKinley entitled, Jesus In The Margins. While the story line is different than what I gleaned from the book, I got the message nonetheless. Yes, I had Jesus in every message, but He was “in the margins” and not at the core, the body of it!

Reading is dangerous! It can change you, if you want it to.
Vacations are not for reading, and I didn’t- while on the ground for five days. However, I was able to consume three whole books over the 20-25 hours of flight time. I mean what else can you do? I know, most sleep.

I appreciate all the work that went into the Apostles Creed, Nicean Creed, and others of the early church fathers. We don’t realize how much territory they had to cover, and just what mind-boggling concepts they were dealing with. If you could for a moment, go back with me some 2000 years.
Israel believes in God Almighty, the one and only true God to whom they have dedicated their lives- though in a somewhat skewed manner. Along comes this “man” named Jesus who say He too is God. Say what? Ever wonder why they crucified Him?

Why does the Bible continue to resonate some 3000 years after it was written?
A better question would be why doesn’t it impact us more? Why aren’t we more the kind of people that the Bible tells us we can be? One of the reasons is that too many people take the Bible literally, factually, fudamentally. Therefore to them the Bible is more HISTORY than it is a NOW LIVING ORGANISM!
The Bible is MORE than Literal! Beyond factual. It is TRUTH.

March 12, 2006 – For too long, we have preached the “how” of the Gospel without first announcing the “WOW!” We have plenty of “how-to” sermons that teach us the five points to becoming better people, but when we hear the “wow” of the Good News – it changes everything!
March 12, 2006 – Dudley Hall shares his personal testimony about the restoration of the relationship with his own son and encourages parents who may be struggling with teenage sons or daughters.
We need more NOUNS & VERBS, and less ADJECTIVES.
For me I know I am in the wrong circles when everyone is talking Christian this and Christain that. I know that we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord, so knowing that, I don’t have to address everyone as such. Besides, it scares some people who don’t know Christ as well: makes them think we’re a cult. You do Remember Jim Jones right?

Defined, Categorized, Named
We can only go so far as our language allows.
When I first read this statement decades ago, I thought, how silly. Experience, more maturity, and time has revealed the truth of the statement though. One of the biggest problems I am having in this season of my life is finding the WORDS to express what I’ve never known before. Last year I read a book by Joel Goldsmith, Beyond Words & Thoughts. Well, I’ve accumulated some “new thoughts”, but the words still aren’t there! Many, many new thoughts indeed.
