Catholics jumped right into the heart of what I know the definition of “liminal space” to be on Tuesday, November 14th. I find it interesting that in the Old Testament you can find a group of things that are “abominations“; however, the only one that many conservative, right-wing politicians care to bash is one- homosexuals. It’s also odd that in the New Testament where we find more than a dozen things for which you can be “disqualified” from inheriting the Kingdom (not even knowing what that means), only homosexuals are targeted. You can be a liar, a cheat, a divider of the body of Christ, and so on but who cares? But, if you are a lesbian, homosexual, or transgendered, you’re in big trouble. I used to think that being a Protestant was the “hip thing“. Obviously by that description you know which era I came out of. I know you’re not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition but sometimes it just works out that way. I’m not saying that the Catholics have it all together because none of us (name the denomination or non-denomination) have it all down pat. There are many show sure think they do! But the Protestants, by the very nature of their name (I protest), seemingly got their upbringing from reading George Orwell’s, Animal Farm! Continue reading ‘Lessons from George Orwell’
Ernie,
I hope that everything is going on well back home in Houston. Just wanted to give you an update of things are going for me at the time. For one, its like forty degrees at night and windy like crazy. I did not expect these things before i got here so i really didn’t pack that well for the weather. So far it has been pretty good out here. Besides getting mortar attacks, everything has been pretty quiet. My job is from 7am to 3pm and i am charge of getting work orders from our soldiers to KBR so that they can come out and fix them. It’s really laid back and i really don’t do much but lift weights in the office and watch tv. So im glad i got really lucky with this job. I got to go to Baghdad yesterday and see what its like out there.
I went to the US embassy which use to be Saddam’s palace, well one of 17 and it was incredible. Gold doors, marble floors and walls. Bathrooms the size of some peoples homes. Just amazing how some one could have all these things in his own home yet the people in the city live in trash filled streets, small apartments with 12 people in them. It really is sad to see that. Anyways, i left LRC’s mark in one of the buildings where Saddam use to address the people. I’m sending a picture of that and of me standing in the same spot where he lifted the golden shotgun and fired shots after the victory over Iran. Hope to hear from you soon.

The paradox of life: so simple and yet so complex!
How did you awaken this morning? What was the drive to work like or getting the kids off to school, or whatever you did before “getting into the groove”? And what’s your mood like as your read this? Maybe it’s the end of the day as you read this post. Whatever time of the day, how many thoughts have you had that begun with the two small words, I followed by am, and then then something incredibly powers: negatively or postively. Sunday, November 12, 2006 - How do you really know when God has spoken to you? How can you know for sure what is His will for your life? There are ways to know and they are not as mysterious as many folks have led you to believe. Plus, a major announcement regarding LRC is included in this message that’s a practical demonstration of the principle preached. ![]()
Throughout history we see movements of God like waves in the ocean, except with greater lengths of their frequency. A refreshing will come and then all becomes stagnate. A reformation is followed by a dryness. An enlightenment is followed by a dark season. And an intimacy seemingly leads to distance and aloofness. Why? Continue reading ‘Staying Fresh & Alive!’
The more I get to know God, I mean really know Him, the more awesome and almighty He becomes. We are so not walking the paths we were created to because we have allowed religion to imprison us, and prevent us from experiencing His power. When I say religion, let me be more specific. I am talking about those “religious traditions” that we will break fellowship over if they point them out. There are so many things that we’re following and believing that are not true: they are just an accumulation of “tradtions” over the centuries that subtely keep us in bondage. Let me elaborate. Continue reading ‘The Almighty & Awesome God’
How much of what we embrace as truth, doctrine, or word of God really is? I believe it was Thomas Mann who said, “We believe so many things theat never have happened, but nonetheless are true.” Wrap your mind around that. It’s like this lake of fire, eternal hellfire and damnation. How is it that in Revelation 20:14 hell can be thrown into the lake of fire when hell has been described as THE lake of fire? How much of what we believe is really truth? Continue reading ‘Truth, Fiction, Or Far More?’
“I thoroughly enjoy going down to the local pub occasionally and sing old songs. I’d rather sit with a drunk than a Pharisee. I think Jesus would have too.” That quote is by Gary Amirault, pastor and writer. Unfortunately, it’s a sentiment with which too many Christians would agree as well. Headed Into Hiding!
I will lead a group of men, starting today, in a Rite Of Calling. A couple days of fasting, meditation, being quiet before the Lord, and discovering things that only solitude can reveal. Continue reading ‘Headed Into Hiding!’
