A Spiritual Jailbreak

Psychologists generally agree that change initially brings regression. We all want a new car, new dress, new job, new this and that, but please, don’t ask me to “learn” anything NEW! Don’t challenge what I now know, or think to be true, with some contrary, off the wall stuff. I’m just settling in. Sorry Charlie. Continue reading ‘A Spiritual Jailbreak’

Conversion Or Connection?

I am not pretending that I have a “thus saith the Lord” on salvation. I don’t know how any human could know. There are surely some sign posts and clues: however, ultimately you have to leave that to the Lord. And I suspect we have more than a few “angels unaware” in our midst that we’re treating very badly. One day we’ll know for sure, but for now we can only study the Scriptures (II Tim. 2:15) and try to treat each person as Jesus would. But, I do have this thought to share. Transformation Not Reformation

That which Luther did not accomplish, maybe by the grace of God this generation can begin anew and not get side-tracked. I don’t know what the “vehicle” will be if not “vehicles“. We need everyone in the fight. As Jesus said, “If they’re not against us, let them alone”. We need everyone in this battle. Let’s not divide any more. Continue reading ‘Transformation Not Reformation’

Church Coercion & Control

Its mostly subtle; however, in some places it is so blatant that you’d think it’s not happening- but it is. And living in “capitalistic America” makes it even more so! Grace is said to be free and un-merited, but here are the things you must do to receive God’s grace: join the church, repent of sins, attend the orientation class, etc., etc., etc. Spencer Burke says, “Religion cannot be advanced by coercion, and wherever that tactic is attempted, it is usually rejected by all but the weakest of souls.” And there are a lot of weak souls! Chasing Religious Regimens

Ah the folly of it all. For how long have we been seeking to fulfill the desires of the Spirit by thinking it could fulfilled by some sort of religious regimen. Do this and do that and all will be well with your soul. Soul? Maybe! Spirit? No way Jose! Being a better person is an admirable human trait: it should be desired. However, to think that you will find God, transformation, and that peace that passes all understanding by good works is laughable. Well, maybe sorrowful. Here’s why. Continue reading ‘Chasing Religious Regimens’

Beyond XYZ

January 27, 2007 - You can’t steal second base with your foot on first. You can’t make mayo without breaking some eggs. And you can’t have the fullness of the Kingdom by staying where we are now. So much more lies beyond what we now know, think and are! If you want more you must go beyond your NOW state!

God Is An Experience- Not A Concept!

We are ALL theologians: some are better, and some are worse than others. Some people believe there is a hell, others do not. Some think that all will be saved, others do not. Some think homosexuals can be members of a local assembly, others do not. Some think that women can be elders, others do not. Regardless of who you are, you have an opinion, and a theology- ideas about God! Where did you get your ideas about God and what makes you think your ideas are right- other than your ego telling you that you’re right. Continue reading ‘God Is An Experience- Not A Concept!’

Homo Sapiens or Homo Spiritus?

Dave Hawkins uses the term homo spiritus in one of his many books. I don’t know if it’s a valid word, but it sure makes a point for me. So much of what the institutional church is doing thse days is competing with the church down the street. And the offerings are getting wilder and wilder. This does not mean that the entertainment is bad, it’s good. But, the programs are all geared to uplifting and benefitting our humahood. Continue reading ‘Homo Sapiens or Homo Spiritus?’

Where Are The Avatars?

Coming to a theatre near you- in 2009! “Avatar” is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival. I can’t wait, can you? James Cameron is one of my favorite directors; however, that’s not exactly what I ahd in mind here. Continue reading ‘Where Are The Avatars?’

Progressive Awareness

The Bible is progressive. The church is not! Life is ultimately like a hologram and yet the church keeps dividing (tens of thousands of denominations) and remains separate wherein the hologram is really a UNIT of ONE. Welcome readers from lrchouston.com. And I am referring to the January 26th post in case you came here from another pathway. Continue reading ‘Progressive Awareness’
