Dr. Edward John Carnell has an interesting way of getting his students to see the benefits of being a good student. He puts it this way. “A university president welcomes the Freshman class with the exciting news that everyone is encouraged to have a good time as they will ALL pass. The students were simply FREE to do as they wished.” That all sounded good at first, but then there’s this question, “What’s the catch?”. No catch! You simply pay the price for doing nothing. Paul put it this way, “We reap what we sow“. But, does this apply to eternity as well- to spiritual matters? Continue reading ‘The Harvest Principle’

I’m not asking anyone to change their God. But, what I am saying is two-fold. How do we reach modern-man who is outside the church and finds “religious language” unbelievable, and how do we reach modern-man who is currently in a church and beginning to wonder what he’s doing there. Our famed statistician, George Barna, tells us that the institutional church is America isn’t finding the answer and it is losing members on a large scale. Where are they going? Some just drop out, but the majority seek “spiritual organizations” that appeal to their Spirit-man, not their religious-psyche. Continue reading ‘We Need A Modern God-Language’
Gordon and Karan Hesketh have just initiated a new web site to go along with the others and it’s specifically designed for those in the Tomball area who want to open a dialogue about God, things of the Spirit, and still have your Sunday or weekends free. The web site is Tomball Oasis. Continue reading ‘Tomball Talk’
Robert Redford brought us into the knowledge of the “Horse Whisperer“, and now we have the “Dog Whisperer”. You do remember Cesar Millan, star of Dog Whisperer, the Emmy-nominated show airing on the National Geographic Channel, and author of The New York Times bestseller Cesar’s Way. Cesar was born in Culiacan, Mexico. As a child, he was given the name “El Perrero”, Spanish for “The Dogman”, because everywhere he went, a swirl of dogs surrounded him. Well, the Spirit whisper is really the metaphorical way to interpreting the Scriptures. Continue reading ‘The Spirit Whisperer!’
Few people even encounter the word, let alone understand it and therein the problem festers. I’m talking about the word CHRISTOLOGY! Christology is a field of study within Christian theology which is concerned with the nature of Jesus the Christ, particularly with how the divine and human are related in his person. Christology is generally less concerned with the details of Jesus’ life than with how the human and divine co-exist in one person. Most Christians believe in what they’ve been taught to BELIEVE, and not only don’t question it, but to stray from it is heresy. Ah, such love! Continue reading ‘Christological Controversies’
We Anglo-Saxons have a NAME for the One True Spirit. We call Him GOD! Other cultures and societies call this SAME Spirit by such names as Allah, Kali, Vishnu, and YHWH. If the big three monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) believe in one God, why do they all differ? What is one to make of all this?
Gordon and Karan Hesketh will be kicking off a new home church community next week. The first meeting will be in his son’s house (Shawn). If you’re interested in attending or being involved, please call 713-376-9930. And you can visit his web site at Digital Evangelism.com to get a feel for his heart. Gordon and Karan live in Tomball so most of their meetings will be in that area. Continue reading ‘Gordon Hesketh Home Church’
This is where I am going on Friday night, the 17th. Spirit you say? Yep. I intentionally didn’t use the three letters that we Anglo-Saxons use (DOG spelled backwards) because it wouldn’t make any sense. We all agree that there is but ONE true God, and He is OUR GOD. That reminds me of the bumper sticker that reads, “God is my co-pilot“. Excuse me! But, I think WE are His, not that HE is OURS! Just because we call the Spirit that created the universe God, doesn’t mean that’s His name (except in our community). Elsewhere He is known as Vishnu, Kali, Allah, and YHWH, to name just a few. Whoever we say He IS, that’s who He will BE to us! A profoundly scary thought now isn’t it. Well, if you really think about it, it is. Continue reading ‘There Is One True Spirit!’
I’ve been around many Christians in my life whose central theme (their life’s goal) is to share the BAD NEWS of HELL. God is always rendering judgment on people and lands. God was so hacked at the low-life living of New Orleans that he sent a hurricane. You do remember that event don’t you? Because the people of Malaysia had not given their hearts to God, but were worshiping other gods, the Christian God sent a tsunami to wipe them and their neighbors out. God is always about the send forth His judgment on someone somewhere. And there are lots of people who just love to share the BAD NEWS. Not me! Continue reading ‘Sharing Hell- The Bad News?’

Occidental Arrogance?
If you ever wondered why it was that Jesus didn’t come to start a religion, now you know, for the title tells you so. If there is anything that Jesus was NOT, it was RELIGIOUS! He was always refuting the Pharisees on their religious practices. Neither did He come to start this RELIGION that we call Christianity. Jesus came to announce the coming of the Kingdom- which HAS COME. He told about His Second Coming- which HAS BEEN COMING. And we embrace His historical incarnation- which is still PRESENTLY INCARNATING! Say what? Continue reading ‘Occidental Arrogance?’
