Can you trust the Bible? Can you trust the RED at least? Can you trust Jesus? If you call yourself a Christian and are a part of that community I would hope that you could answer YES to all three. But isn’t it strange that so many people who say YES to all three, have a “belief system” that says the contrary? Strange indeed. Continue reading ‘Jesus Hype Or Truth?’

One of the msot over-worked Scriptures by fundamentalists is II Timothy 3:16. So what does INSPIRATION mean anyway? The word inspiration comes by way of the Latin wherein the King James translations of the Greek word θεοπνευστος (theopneustos) means literally “God-breathed“. Fundamentalism take that to mean something akin to “automatic writing“, in that the writers of the Bible had no will nor personality of their own, but were only putting on paper what God spoke to them. I don’t think so! Continue reading ‘# 43- Practical Inspiration’
People look to the Bible for all sorts of things and they view it as just as many. It’s a science book, a history book, and a “how-to” just about anything. Have you noticed how many Find You Mate Christian web sites there are. step right up folks, open your Bible and find whatever it is you need or the cure for whatever ails you. How sad! Continue reading ‘It’s A Bible!’
Here I go again with yet another multi-part series. As I begin I have not a clue as to how many I’ll write, but what I do sense is that each commentary (every day) needs to have a couple of nuggets of truth that can be pondered for awhile, eating slowly and digesting the spiritual food; rather than gorging ourselves on one meal and then feeling sick and bloated. In the Old Testament, we have three major themes: the wilderness journey, the exile, and the temple worship. The church has camped way too long and too severely in the temple concepts which basically speak of sin and sin management. It’s time to move on to the GOOD NEWS! Continue reading ‘# 1- Sin Management Obsessions’
Let me quote Romans 12:21 from the New Living Translation for you, “Don’t let evil conquer you, but (you) conquer evil by doing good. How do WE, God’s creation conquer evil? Think about it for a moment……………………. WE conquer evil with GOOD! It’s another way of saying resist not evil (Matt. 5:39)- that we don’t like to hear, or practice. So, here is the question. Why would God ask of US that which He would not ask or demand of Himself? Continue reading ‘Revisiting Romans 12:21′
Which came first: the chick or the egg? The proverbial question isn’t just for philosophical gamesmanships. Isn’t it interesting that those who claim the WORD of God as final, do so of course with “their interpretations” of the Word. I used to place the Bible, the Word of God, above all. Everything had to come back to the WORD for confirmation, verification, and validation. How convenient that the WORD was according to my interpretation. How convenient indeed. Continue reading ‘Faulty Interpretations’
I don’t get it and I don’t think people understand it when they say that man’s FREE WILL is why there has to be a HELL! Either God came up with a plan that’s not working, or He came up with a plan that made man’s will and desires stronger than His. Or, maybe we just don’t comprehend the plan. Can you imagine a God who would create creatures more powerful than Him? Many can, and many do! Continue reading ‘A Non-Omnipotent God?’
Plate tectonics is a theory of geology that has been developed to explain the observed evidence for large scale motions of the Earth’s lithosphere (the crust of the earth). The theory encompassed and superseded the older theory of continental drift from the first half of the 20th century and the concept of seafloor spreading developed during the 1960s. The alst time I had a geology lesson there were seven major plates. Our world is moved and is shaken by their action. Ready to make the transition? Continue reading ‘The Tectonic Lions’
It is so, so very hard to get people in certain parts of the world (can you say the Bible Belt in America) to see that because something isn’t LITERAL, it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Metaphors can be more than true. Legends and myths are often timeless truths that hold entire societies together. We live our lives based on STORIES, that don’t have to have factually happend to be true! And that’s how much of the Bible is written. That does not demean nor discredit the Bible in any way. My faith isn’t in some black print (or red) on white paper that’s been interpreted hundreds of times over. My faith is in the sacredness of the Bible- not in some false religious paradigm that claims every word is inerrant. Continue reading ‘Beautiful Imagery- Not Literalness!’

# 2- Sin Management Obsessions
In this second commentary let me swing to the other side of the pendulum. From what sin should not necessarily be to what the positive response would look like and then we’ll come back and meander between the two poles. In essence, the heart of the gospel is not about SIN, but about the Kingdom. Where’s your emphasis in life? If you spend all your time trying to overcome sin or be delivered by sin, you’ll be eaten alive by SIN- the very thing you’re trying not to do. Remember Paul in Romans 7? Continue reading ‘# 2- Sin Management Obsessions’
