My purpose here, which I hope to accomplish, is to make simple some concepts that are either too complicated or even addressed by those who call themselves Christians. At the core of Christainity is Jesus, the Christ, and what one thinks of Him which is called Christoloy. He was an historical person (man) who lived and walked this earth. Then there is God who is far more abstract and what we think of Him which is called theology. Ready? Continue reading ‘A Balanced Christology’

Too many churches and denominations have rested! They’re resting because God is said to be in the 7th day rest (wrong), and because Jesus did it all on the cross. In other words, way too many have accepted the Mini-me version of the Godhead. Let’s talk salvation here. For whatever it means, it’s far more than we are accepting. Minimally, and I say that reverently, salvation is redemption from SIN. But for God’s sake, don’t stop there! Continue reading ‘Salvistic Benefits Card’
At the heart of the heaven-hell debate is is a more series thread that runs through all of life and the question, “What think ye of Christ“? It has been very subtle, but what is patently obvious ov er the last 25 years is that Christianity has been moving away from eschatalogical pronouncements and more to living the Christological ones. Over simplifying, we need to live in the NOW and not in the sweet-bye-n-bye. Continue reading ‘Christology Not Eschatology!’
I am in the midst of writing a ten part series on LRC Houston entitled “Revisiting The Bible“. I say that because I don’t want what I’m about to write to be misinterpreted. But, written propositional statements is no longer the primary way the God reveals Himself to man, nor how man comprehends God. Should it have ever been? Continue reading ‘Self Disclosure’
For way too long into the Summer of my life I was taught that I could not rely upon REASON when it came to spiritual or religious matters. In essence I was being told to NOT think! Or, it was being intimated that there are just some things that one cannot reason out. I got that. What I didn’t get was that I was being asked to have a frontal lobotomy. Continue reading ‘Reasoning Dimly’
There is no questioning the fact- Jesus was a man: a male. And He called God Abba Father, but God certainly isn’t a man- male! When the Bible was written, men were dominant, they ruled the roost, and God couldn’t be anything but a MALE according to the Biblical authors. This isn’t deep logic, nor does it need intense investigation. Continue reading ‘# 46- A Changing View Of God’
Once upon a time in a teaching far far away, I believed that the Bible was written by several men who sat down with pen in hand and wrote what the Holy Spirit spoke to them: something akin to automatic writing. And then I believed (because I had been taught such) that all the Godly men came together one day and the Holy Spirit told them what Books were to be in His Bible. Thus when all was said and done, I’d have the pure word of God in a brilliantly written, inerrant, and infallible to guide my life. Continue reading ‘# 6- Revisiting The Bible’
How difficult it is to honor the ancient customs and traditions of our religion and stay intellectually honest at the same time. Our Christian faith is ageless but it is encumbent on us to keep it relevant with a language and form that’s believable. To do so requires very great care to utilize modern language and an interpretation of those time honored truths that fit realistic, scientific, and current cultural paradigms. This is not a “selling out” of the core beliefs, but a deepening understanding of them. Continue reading ‘Spiritual Integrity’
I am sure that everyone would affirm that their life is changing, evolving, and being transformed. The question is whether or not it’s going FAST ENOUGH to make much of a difference in your life before you leave this world? The church is one of the most conservative institutions in the world and we should all be alarmed to the point of doing something about it- personally. Like, don’t resist every new idea, don’t try to hold on to untenable doctrines, and fantasy stories: especially in light of incontrovertable evidence to the contrary. Let me share with you one of the most sad and ridiculous examples. Continue reading ‘Let’s Be More Responsive’
# 7- Revisiting The Bible
If we’re honest, and the degree of transparency is important here, we will admit the Bible is basically what the CHURCH says it IS: both local assemblies and regional or international denominations. . It is the early church (Catholic) that decided what would be the norm (can you say canon) for the church to follow. When I say church, I am alluding to the mainstream, the majority, but certainly not ALL. We’re still divided into Catholic, Protestant, and several other streams as well.
