Every time there is some major weather catastrophe, the right wing, radical, literal, and fundamentalists come out screaming that it is the wrath of God! Why do insurance companies call national disasters an “act of God“? Hurricane Rita was the wrath of God. Hurricane Katrina was an act of God. Me thinks we think too much. And, we apparently think Old Testament and not the Kingdom like Jesus taught.
Now days it doesn’t take much to get the religious crowd in a “judgmental mode“. The last two weeks of flooding has even brought out the senior Church of England bishops.
One diocesan bishop has even claimed that laws that have undermined marriage, including the introduction of pro-gay legislation, have provoked God to act by sending the storms that have left thousands of people homeless.
Isn’t God loving?
While those who have been affected by the storms are innocent victims, the bishops argue controversially that the flooding is a result of Western civilization’s decision to ignore biblical teaching.
Isn’t God forgiving?
The Rt Rev Graham Dow, Bishop of Carlisle, argued that the floods are not just a result of a lack of respect for the planet, but also a judgment on society’s moral decadence.
Isn’t God merciful?
“This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way,” he said. “We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation, as well as the environmental damage that we have caused.”
Yes, God is loving, forgiving, and merciful; however, the church and those particularly that are called fundamentalists or literalists ARE NOT! And if you’d like to read what kind of history they have produced, CLICK HERE for the five-part series from Monday, July 2 to Friday, July 6.
