# 36- God Doesn’t Write Books!

I am very much a reader! I love to read. I have read tens of thousands of books, and yet the greatest moments in my life have come from a spirit to spirit encounter with God. It is recorded in the book of Jeremiah, chapter 31, and verse 33, “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the LORD. “I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” And yet religion tells us that it’s all about the BOOK!

Prior to the invention of BOOKS, oral cultures did just fine. As time passed, changes were made. Societies changed, evolved, and progressed. Then along came the BOOK. I love the sacred book that Christians call the Bible, which is really a LIBRARY of 66 or 73 books depending upon if you are Protestant or Catholic.

But it’s a BOOK- not God!

It’s a library of books, by dozens of authors, over a thousand+ years in the writing: written by men, inspired by moments of true enlightenment. You might say God used a few “secretaries” to take down some thoughts and in so doing they displayed their personalities and bias as well.

When the Fundamentalists wrote the book FUNDAMENTALS in 1909 they essentially said that every WORD in the Bible was true, every historical event a fact, and all things happened LITERALLY as written. With literally (pun intended) hundreds of different “translations”, which ONE is the EXACT WORD OF GOD?

And then many of these books were called “sacred scriptures“. In os doing that means they are off limits to to any criticism. It’s akin to saying I just heard “God say“. Once you play the “G card“, it’s all over. Or, once you play the “SS card” (sacred scripture). there can be no debate. Hmmm.

With the writing of BOOKS, flexibility was destroyed- if you believe literally!

Ever wondered why Jesus never wrote a book?

And why the only writing he did was in the sand?
