I am not against any group, denomination, or person(s). There are IDEAS though to which I am totally against. I just listed two in the headline which automatically gives you a clue that I am NOT a Catholic, but I do have many Catholic friends. I am not against Catholicism even though the Pope just reaffirmed that I am not a member of the true church- as though Jesus came to start a church in the first place. He did not! Bit I digress. Here’s my comment for this post.
Since I don’t believe in original sin, in the way the church teaches it, I of course have no need for all the games that I see the church has gone to in order to validate their position on the Most Blessed Mary. It took the Roman Catholic Church many centuries to finally come to the “justifications” that they now embrace regarding Mary.
The Immaculate Conception and Mary’s consequent sinlessness of course violates the “all have sinned” (Rom. 3:23)Scripture. Like all other descendants of Adam, she was subject to the necessity of contracting original sin- if you believe that one. But, Catholics claim that by a special intervention of God, undertaken at the instant she was conceived, she was preserved from the stain of original sin and its consequences. She was therefore redeemed by the grace of Christ, but in a special way—by anticipation.
Anticipation? I don’t see it!
Then there’s the Assumption theory.
When I die, my body goes into a grave, unless I am creamated, and my soul heads off to heaven (we won’t discuss that conept here, now). Christians of every cnceivable denomination are agreed on this premise (I think). But, alas, Mary gets this free pass again from the rest of us. Catholics believe that the body of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also in heaven.
I simply can’t see this either. Alas, I’m no Catholic though I love many of Catholic traditions and history.
