# 38- Religion Need Not Be Mediated!

I am glad that I have moved from being a “pastor” of and institutional church to a “spiritual guide” of a local community of believers. I, me personally, no longer believe in the hierarchy that I found myself attached to for six decades. I don’t know what that means about the future, but I am thinking that it is GOOD!. Only time will tell. However, the point of this 38th theses being nailed to the internet airways (and not the church door as in the days of Luther), is that church has lost it’s way, and I’m not sure that it has the courage, interest, or resources to find it’s way back to Jesus!

Jesus did not come to teach doctrine, nor was He a doctrinal teacher!

The church has misrepresented Him in this and many other things.

Jesus didn’t come to start and be the founder of a new religion- church! Posthumously, the church attributed things to Him that He never spoke of nor advocated. But, the church found it in their best interests to ascribe these things to Him though.

Here’s the core of this 38th theses. I can come into the presence of the Creator of the universe all by myself. I don’t need someone to lead me in a sinners prayer to find intimacy with God. I don’t need a MAN in a DRESS to put a wafer in my mouth to take communion. I don’t need a fancy small “fits two” box to tell my confessions to another that I might be forgiven.

In order to have a right relationship with God, I don’t need to go through an infallible anyone (can you say Pope?), read the right Scriptures, say the right words, accept and affirm the right belief system, join the right denomination, repeat the proper and orthodox creeds, or even pray in unknown tongues. I don’t need a MEDIATED spiritual, religious, church paradigm.

Blow that box to hell! Remember, that’s just a metaphor: don’t take it literally!

Now, while I don’t NEED (as in have to have), one cannot live outside COMMUNITY! Who’s yours? :-)

  • I had a hard time when you changed what LRC stood for. If for no other reason than it meant something I used to be a part of and loved no longer existed. But you know what? In reality, LRC has always been more of a community than a church. Y’all just made it official. And it’s a community that I loved being a part of in body then and in spirit now!
