A first time visitor goes to church with his neighbor and hears the most remarkable message. The message is almost unbelievable, but if true, one would have to respond. What was the message? It was about this loving Savior who died on the Cross for our sins, rose again, and provides grace and forgiveness for all who put their trust in Him. Amazing grace isn’t it! Who could even think about turning down such grace? It’s almost too good to be true!
It isn’t too long in the church membership journey that a couple of inevitable questions arise. What will happen to those who never hear the Gospel or Jesus? Worse yet, what will happen to Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus? More sticky yet, what will happen to Catholics (if you’re Protestant)? We all know what Catholics think of Protestants! Will they go to hell- eternally?
What happened to the God that offered me the olive branch? Is this the same God we’re talking about? ![]()
Recent surveys by people who call themselves Christians (who know little about why they’re Christians, or much about the Bible) say that “even if the Bible teaches eternal punishment, they do not believe it.” Now, what’s that say about the authority of the Bible (to them)? What we have here, is a “failure to communicate“. Or, maybe just bad doctrine?
Those who do not believe in the inerrancy of the Bible of course have little problem with hell. It ain’t there. Those that do take the Bible literally and as also inerrant and infallible, still struggle with what they feel in their heart. And then then are those who just refuse to believe anything other than the BAD NEWS of an eternal hell. Listen, it’s hard to believe that God would let us off the hook with anything less than “eternal hell fire and damnation.” The human mind is not capable of comprehending the love of God. Look at our lives as a simple confirmation. If we KNEW the true love that God had for us, we’d be doing things a lot differently.
Me? I’m agreeing with the GOOD NEWS!
A temporary hell, correction, punishment, divine judgment, or something like that sure sounds more like the God we were sold; however, to send someone to hell for all of eternity seems to be a major “disconnect” for the God I hold in my heart.
Simply put, eternal hell is BAD NEWS, and not God news! ![]()
I’m holding on to the GOOD NEWS! ![]()
