A JUST GOD!

I have always known that God was GOOD. In fact, He’s so awesomely good one cannot imagine how merciful and full of grace He really is. His unfailing LOVE staggers me! Lamentations 3:21 says that” God’s unfailing love never ends and His mercies keep me from complete destruction”. That I destroy myself a little is well documented. And then ten verses later in that same chapter of Lamentations, God gives me and all of humanity the final confidence by saying, “I will never abandon ANYONE FOREVER“. All are NLT versions. But, here’s the deal.

The majority of the Christian scholars, and thus the community as a whole, don’t believe that! :-(

For decades I labored and struggled to somehow make what I had been told work: theologically, philosophically, logically. I mean if I can’t reconcile what I’ve been taught (my head) with my heart, what can I embrace? What indeed!

I guess the last hurdle I had to cross was God being a just God. That’s the sacry one that I was always threatened with whenever I started to question an opinion or dogma. God had to create a hell, as an example, to punish those who rejected Him. Those who sinned and refused to repent of their sins deserved hell- and it was their choice after all- free will you know. And then I started thinking. :-)

Does anyone deserve hell? Seriously, think on it.

I am talking the commonly understood version of hell: eternal damnation, everlasting punishment and torment, and total forever and ever separation from God. That IS JUST? For decades I thought so. How could my teachers be wrong? Maybe if God was vindictive, mean-spirited, angry, and retributive in His approach to His creation: however, that’s not what Jesus revealed about the Father.

So, here’s where I have landed- currently. That God is love, loving, and merciful is without doubt. That He is JUST is prima facia evidence that He could NOT eternally damn someone- anyone. What’s JUST about eternal damnation for a temporal sin?

A JUST God? Hell yes! Which means there is no eternal hell, because God is JUST! :-)
