A Personal God

I’m sure that you’ve been in a discusssion with someone who is a bit shy about sharing their feelings and thoughts about God. If so, then you have probably heard them say at some point, “I don’t talk about that because it’s a personal thing.” And that’s that way it should be in some respects in that any relationship with God is personal, but also universal.

People are usually taken aback when I say that you become the God you worship!

George Barna has done a gazillion studies on the attirudes and opinions of religious people. What’s clear is that people have “their opinion of God”. We’ve created God in our own image. If we see God as a Judge, then we fear Him, we’re worried about doing right things, and we check the “law list” frequently to make sure we’re obeying. Who wants to face the wrath of God?

Remember Hebrews 10:31.

But others see God as LOVE, and therefore a LOVER. In which case, it’s not about LAW, but about having an intimate relationships, as lovers do! And from there, it’s about loving others. The old Matthew 22:37-99 principle. So, which way are you having it, and I’m not talking at Burger King.

There are many other metaphors that can be implemented so don’t get hung up on an either-or, Judge-Lover. The point my dear friend is to try and honestly look at yourself and see who this God is that you have created. This personal God may not have anything to do with the real God. And then for you mystics, saying that you become the God you worship is just really affirming that we are one and that you and God cannot be separate even if you tried. :-)

Get truthfully personal about God!

I enjoy the message of Friday a lot and now when I see what says this Post I have more.
It is time of changing that personal GOD that we have maintained in our mind, there is a good GOD and of love waiting that we enjoy it.
