The only way to get through life without cratering over and over again is to be a true Son of God. Jesus was. He received ALL that God offered. William Scott Palmer said it this way, “We learn that what we call Sonship in God must at least mean the capacity of receiving Him into ourselves and penetrating into His desire for us.” Sure makes sense to me. Wonder why we see so little of it?
Listen, if a man never fought with or opposed God, if he was always receptive to the influx of God’s Spirit, and if his obedience was in all actions, He’d no doubt be a Son. But, who can attain those qualifications or standards?
God is everywhere to be found; however, He must be our priority.
In this busy world, who has time to even think about being some sort of “Son” to God, let alone doing it? Jesus is the model. We have to get to know the first-begotten Son to get some basic understanding of how sonship works. Follow Jesus and you’re on your way to being a true son.
Friedrich Heiler said it this way, “Everywhere God is at work, illuminating, guiding, helping, and healing, sending out His beams in all directions. But in the incarnate, risen, and ever-living Christ these radiant beams are focused into one clear and burning flame.” That’s where I desire to be.
And you?
