An Androgynous Theology-Mythology

I embrace Abba Father that Jesus referenced. I also embrace Energy-Consciousness-Field-Spirit which has no gender. I also embrace Sophia which is feminine wisdom from time eternal. I understand the Shamanic history of acknowledging Father Sky and Mother Earth. It doesn’t need to be confusing, nor limited to one gender.

Who can limit God: other than religion?

Archeological findings, especially in Europe, show that from about midway through the ice age and until 4,000 BCE (6,000 years ago), God was Goddess. In essence the divine was postured in the feminine. For the last 6,000 years God has been represented by the masculine. The paradigm of the masculine without the feminine is a limited and lacking one.

We need the nurturing of Mother earth and the direction of Father sky.

God is neither male nor female but has both feminine and masculine attributes. Historically, the masculine attributes of God have been widely known. However, knowledge and expression of the feminine aspects of God have been ignored or even actively denied and repressed. Guess who have repressed those views? :-(

The feminine attributes of God include receptivity, containment, nurturance, quietude, being (as opposed to doing), and feeling, to name just a few. While masculine attributes include these qualities: doing, acting, deciding, judging, and creating. The feminine attributes of God have often been called wisdom or in Greek, Sophia.

We need them all as numerators and grace and unconditional love as the denominator.

Joseph Campbell writes, “It was easier to see the feminine side of God when we were an primarily an agricultural society. It has to do with the earth. The human woman gives birth just as the earth gives birth to the plants…so woman magic and earth magic are the same. They are related. And the personification of the energy that gives birth to forms and nourishes forms is properly female. It is in the agricultural world of ancient Mesopotamia, the Egyptian Nile, and in the earlier planting-culture systems that the Goddess is the dominant mythic form.”

Let us embrace the totality of the DIVINE, the I AM that we are. We are a mix of testosterone and estrogen. Wonder why? :-)
