How foolish we are to think that we know so much, that are there are no mysteries that we can’t uncover, nor any explanation of the things of God that we can’t unravel. How utterly, utterly insane we are in such things. And yet we turn around and call God Infinite: we the finite, are going to figure out that which is infinite. Yeah, sure. How about a great investment in a multi-level plan to build a sustainable community on the moon. Interested? It’s more attainable than the so-called “systematic theology” that we have made out religious god. And?
My case in point is the Hebrew word “dabar” (Strongs Concordance #1696). Left-brain and left-behind theologians have defined this word as simple a “spoken word”, to “speak”, or to “say”. And yet it is so much more powerful than that.
Other definitions would be: to command, declare, pronounce, or in all practicality to CREATE with the flowing energy of God’s Being. Powerful stuff, not mere speaking a word! We have so under-estimated God. Dabhar is about DEEDS and ACTIONS and intellectual theologians have made it a “simple word spoken”.
Let me refer to what two people have already said better than I could and leave it at that!
Meister Eckhart said, “God is a great underground river that no one can dam up and no one can stop.”
Leonard Bernstein in his marvelous work, The Mass, put it this way……..
You can lock up the bold men,
Go and lock up your bold men
And hold men in tow.
You can stifle all adventure
For a century or so.
Smother hope before it’s risen,
Watch it wizen like a gourd.
But you cannot imprison
The Word of the Lord.
No, you cannot imprison
The Word of the Lord.
Unfortunately, we’re still trying the impossible! ![]()
