Sometimes we stumble over and really don’t see the OBVIOUS. And then, what’s obvious to one may not be to another. We’ve been given two physical eyes and one (third) spiritual eye. I’ve come to the conclusion that the two eyes are “ways of seeing“. We SEE the Bible DEVOTIONALLY with one eye and HISTORICALLY with the other. And then we merge them with our third eye to complete the picture.
This message came to me in a dream or semi-awake dream one morning and amazingly I remembered enough to share it with you.
When I say that the Bible is SACRED to me I am in essence saying that I interpret it DEVOTIONALLY. I am an ardent and dedicated person when it comes to the Bible. But, I do not make the Bible an IDOL (Bibliolatry) believing it to be perfect, infallible, and inerrant. I also SEE and interpret the Bible HISTORICALLY meaning it was written at a specific time for a specific people though there are PRINCIPLES that transcend time and space. And obviously when one reads the many contradictions that are in the Bible, who could attibute such to the God who created the universe-a LOVING God?
The Bible in one sense is simply a love letter.
The underlying STORY of the Bible is that of a Father’s love for a Son and the Son’s love for the Father and yet to take that too literally causes all sorts of problems that we don’t need. Jesus was devoted to the “Father” and yet he knew that God was SPIRIT (John 4:24) and not flesh and bones. When we look at the Bible only DEVOTIONALLY we can get get caught up in all manner of emotionalism. But, when we look at the Bible too HISTORICALLY we can lose the flavor, spirit, and meaning.
Enter the THIRD EYE: the fusing of the two natural eyes.
The third eye (known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept. It is also spoken of as the gate that leads within to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. The third eye is represented by the sixth chakra in Eastern religious lore. The third eye is often associated with visions and enhanced enlightenment: many are known as seers.
There are of course many other ways to interpret the Bible (progressively is a main one); however, balancing the personal with the impersonal (the Father image with Consciousness) is a constant juggling act that only the Spirit WITHIN each of us can achieve. How many balls are you juggling, or do you only have one horse in the race (metaphors galore).
I see a lot of comments about “Bibliolatry”. That seems like a mocking, judgmental term which condescends to those who dare to believe what was written historically was and is from the heart of God. If believing the Bible makes an idol out of it, and makes me childlike in my faith, count me in! I dare to receive the truth that all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, and equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16).
Believing the bible is not idolotry but not believing what’s outside the bible is. Everything has a part and a purpose but to only see in a 2 dimensional world is very limiting and may appear to be an absence of growth or dwarfism. Now that may not be the case but if when a regular conversation can not be done without scriptures dotting every word and people never get to know the real person then the obvious conclusion can be made.
Various translations of the Bible are among my most prized possessions in the Library of my home. I have it’s value in perspective and do not idolize it. I have allowed the spirit to be the teacher and it filters for me that which is useful to me and which I must overlook or take historically.
I was in bondage over the divorce scriptures until the Spirit freed me. I was in bondage over the women being silent scriptures until the spirit freed me. I could go on. Of all the books I have read this one has effected me the most and not always in a positive way.
Last night at 3 in the morning I recieved a valuable lesson. The kind that only the spirit can give, bringing light to the word. Yesterday during the storm a small winged creature was laying on my patio. The wind and rain battered his wings but he was alive. I helped him get dry and patiently moved him out where he could get sun when the sun came out in the evening. He layed out there most of the day and sometimes I wondered if it would make it. But I chose to believe. I went to the patio at 3 in the morning to see if it was still there. It was gone. First I was happy and then I doubted. What if it died? I immediately heard. What you just did is being double minded. Do you believe your efforts to save the little guy were successful or not. It is your choice, but choose and be steadfast in your decision that love is all. And love will always crown your efforts with success.
These lessons are humbling and very life changing. This is what Jesus meant when he said, when the comforter has come he will lead you to all truth, and that you need not that anyone should teach you. Life’s lessons come with flowing in the spirit and the word is brought to my rememberance and illumnated.
2 Tim. 3:16 refers only to the Old Testament, which is all the “scripture” there was when this was written. Of course, the word “scripture” has no magical properties as many feel it does.
Paulette how profound! I was touched and impacted by your story. Especially “once you have bathed something in love just believe and hold steadfast”. The very same scripture came to mind as I read Ernie’s post re: The Comforter who has come to lead us in all truth… The question: Is HE also confined only to the Bible? Of course not, hence, your story about the winged creature. There is so much more than just that which was written in the bible. One only need to look at nature or the heavens and it’s infinite like the Source himself. Otherwise, why would the Spirit come? Why is he here? What need would there be for his presence in this realm? If the good book were a finished work why couldn’t the Spirit just rest on the 7th day so to speak? What awesome mysteries have we yet to learn & discover? God is INFINITE! We will never come to the end of our discoveries in this realm or the others. We will never come to the end of our true self for that matter. That infinity resides in each one of us. How does one put INFINITY in a box anyway? Only by illusion. The Light will always find a way of escape!
By the way…can one get a lens for their third eye? I’d like to sharpen my focus.
Don, is it possible to believe that when Paul penned 2 Tim. 3:16 the Holy Spirit knew it would ultimately refer to all of the Bible?
It is possible for humans to believe just about anything. We prove that everyday.
It’s a scripture I don’t believe literally refers to the OT. I believe the Holy Spirit was prophesying.
I used to read the Bible threw the eyes of law and grace and it brought fear and judgement to my heart and mind. Now I read the Bible threw the eyes of grace and it brings love and joy.
God open my eyes to read the Bible has a letter of love to Jesus Christ and to all people of the world.
