Boring Fundamentalism

Life lived in and by the Spirit of God is the most exciting and nerve-wracking lifestyle there is. But, living by the law, under static and conservative church dogma, using antiquated 2,000 year old terminology is death by the slow-drip! Predictable and intolerant fundamentalism is a very ailing sacred cow.

And, when you add to that the stench of exclusivity and imperialism (my denomination is the only pure one by which one can be saved), you’ve got some four month old milk that needs to go to the dumpster.

Unfortunately, as we get older, most become calcified and frozen in their opinions. As a result our society and religion in particular are facing a crisis of meaning: meaning there isn’t any- or very little. Richard Rohr put it this way, “Many of our children are growing up in a religiously meaningless world and are thus drawn to glib fundamentalism. Anything, even silliness is better than meaninglessness! Why do we wonder why we’re losing the younger crowd?
