Gordon and Karan Hesketh have just initiated a new web site to go along with the others and it’s specifically designed for those in the Tomball area who want to open a dialogue about God, things of the Spirit, and still have your Sunday or weekends free. The web site is Tomball Oasis.

Do you have lots of questions about God and spiritual matters? Have you been hurt, disillusioned or disappointed with organized religion? Is your faith not really working successfully in your life? Do you wish there was a place where you could ask some of your questions, or share some of your own ideas with other believers?

Well, our new Home Church is just such a place. In fact, we offer a friendly, casual, informal, environment where everyone’s knowledge of God can freely grow. Like an oasis. There is no lecture, no dogma, nor hierarchy to hinder free expression and sharing. We are just a group of people seeking the truth about God in an atmosphere where everyone feels loved and accepted.

If you live near Tomball, Texas or the Northwest Houston metro area, we invite you to come and experience a refreshing time with us. Bring your questions and your ideas with you, and you will find like-minded people to share them with. We want you to experience the freedom and the abundant life that comes from knowing God and His Son, Jesus.

Gordon and Karan Hesketh will be kicking off a new home church community next week. The first meeting will be in his son’s house (Shawn). If you’re interested in attending or being involved, please call 713-376-9930. And you can visit his web site at Digital Evangelism.com to get a feel for his heart.
Gordon graduated from Tennessee Temple Bible School and from there has tested the waters of many streams of religious thought in America such as: Baptist, Fullness, Assembly of God, Charismatic, Word of Faith, non denominational, and even Lakewood.

Using his words as to where he is now, “Currently, my journey has taken me completely off the mainstream highway and into a quiet country road.”

Gordon and Karan have a wealth of experiences and “living the reality of life” that they can share with you. Come join them. And if you want to dive a little deeper, check out his website at Mystic Journey.

I’ve seen so many people become disallusioned with institutional churches. I understand that. I started one and I am in the midst of modifying that, believing there is a compromise that will do away with the totalitarianism of the institutional church and still maintain the mission that Jesus, the Christ had. I see way too many people throwing the proverbial baby out with the bath water and winding up with neither baby or bathwater!

There must be a sense of and a reality of COMMUNITY!

It’s the big picture that must be upheld and not some aspect of the Great Commission that an individual feels led to use as a nail that they can hammer all day long. So many home churches lose the vision, the Kingdom vision, and wind up on some detour battling “against things” instead of promoting the Kingdom.

1-Against those who are homophobics.
2-Against those who are misogynists.
3-Against those that are post tribulationists.
4-Against those that believe in an eternal hell.
5-Against those that are exclusionists……………………ad nauseum!

Because home groups are usually very small there is a “lack of diversity” that’s truly needed to keep the group focused on the big picture. As Stephen Covey has said, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing”. Having said all this, I am not against the isntitutional church, home groups, or any “grouping”. I am FOR all of us advancing the Kingdom.

Within each “grouping of individuals” there will always be specializations, select callings; however, when the tail starts wagging the dog, is there really a dog? Just something to ponder as you look at where you’re joined and participating.

You are somewhere contributing bondy, soul, spirit, and money, aren’t you?

It begins at home and if it’s not practiced there, it’s near impossible to get it anywhere else. Gangs will lure people in with the promise, but ultimately, that’s not why they want you. I am talking about the need for us to learn LOVE at our mother’s breast and at our father’s side. If there is anything that a HOME church should do and be , it is LOVE!

People become more easily alienated or sense that in a larger church environment. Is there any wonder that the average church size in America is 75. There’s enough people to know and love without getting lost in the crowd. However, the home church attendees need to remember that it’s a “training ground” to go OUT and love others. It’s not just for me and my (home group).

I John 4:16 reminds us that those who dwell in in love are doing so only because they live so much of their life in God!

John 13:35 then follows up with the evangelical and practical message that people can only KNOW that we’re Christians not by the size of our church group, not by any prophecies that we utter, but by the love that we have for one another.

We can accomplish both of those Scriptures in “any form” or format. It’s not how you meet, where you meet, or with how many you meet, but that YOU ARE LOVE & LOVING.

And that needs to begin in the HOME.

So many people run off to home groups so they can hide, not be accountable, or have to face the heavy hand of their institutional masters. Believe me, there are as many masters looking for slaves out of the main stream as there are in it. Just because you wandered off into a smaller stream doesn’t mean you’ve left all the wolves behind. And I’m not implying that those who join a home group are all running. They are not. But, let’s be honest here.

There are teachers everywhere who covet power, who lust for fame, and who will get all they can get on the backs of people regardless of where they are located or in what organizational body they belong.

Maybe if you go back and read Luke 11:37-52 or maybe Matthew 23:13-32 you’ll get all the reminders that you need. Regardless of small group or large denomination there are those who distort the teaching of Jesus and blind people with their “personal dogma“.

Unfortunately, organized religion, regardless of size aren’t immune from wolves.

Ultimately, everyone has to find the answers within themselves. The best leaders are those who continually point us to the Spirit not with words, but with the demonstration of His LIFE in theirs. Find that person and you’ve found the field that you need to BUY!

Whatcha looking to invest in?

Anything look interesting?

Life is FOR GIVING, not FOR GETTING. Put it together. Life is about FORGIVING!

The end game of salvation is forgiveness!

I’m sure that you’ve heard that expression many times. Some people like to get lost in crowds: meet the mega church. Some people like to be involved in large social activities to benefit the community: meet the medium-sized church. Some people want a traditional church building to meet in but want to know everyone: meet the average small church in America. And then there are these.

Some people want to fellowship with just a few families and develop a close intimacy with all the children of the families: meet the home church.

Of course I am painting with a broad brush and we all know that there are lots of other reasons that people gravitate to various church entities and organizations. The point here though is follow your heart, but in so doing make sure that it lines up with the heart of God because He just might want you where your first preference isn’t.

I Corinthians 12:18 seems to indicate that is still His perogative.

The NIV puts it this way, “But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body (that would be you), every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”

The problem is not the structure, nor the form. The problem is what’s in the heart of the people! Ralph Neighbor wrote in his book (Where Do We Go From here), “I am convinced that the church worldwide is being slowly replaced by an act of God. Developments taking place today are as powerful as the upheavel in 1517 with Martin Luther.” I seriously doubt that!

The demise of the church has been predicted by thousands of people; however, at the core of all these arguments is the question of what IS…church?

Church is not a building- nor is it a home!

Church BE-AM People!

Bad people in institutional churches are the same as bad people in home churches. Changing a location, size of meeting room, or the size of the group doesn’t change the spirit of the leaders of those entities.

Let’s support mega churches. Let’s root on the medium and small sized churches. Let’s pray for all the cell or home churches. We need to be edifying ALL. If someone is called to start a home church (and many are), fabulous. Do it with ALL your zeal, but there’s no need to bad-mouth those who are in institutional churches.

In like fashion, not everyone who starts a home church is an ego maniac who couldn’t submit to authority in a larger entity. Life is hell when we make it a Binary OS, either or situation. That Operating System isn’t God’s. His is a Unitive Heart OS.

For more clarification on what that means… CLICK HERE!

Professional sport teams generally play better at home than in their away games. The best of teams though don’t care one way or the other. Of course they like sleeping in their own beds; however, they give it their best every time they step onto the court, or playing field. And how about you and I?

Wherever you go, there you are! Science has not yet found a way to escape that natural law. Your luggage can end up in several cities, but you only get to go to one city.

Many people wind up leaving the institutional church to form “home churches“; however, if they left for any reason(s) that aren’t Gods, the same environment will develop. If God is calling you to start a home church, let’s do it.

I’m shooting for an April of May teaching that can get you there!

Otherwise, the words of Henri Nouwen might need some meditating on. “When we say I love Jesus, but I hate the church, we end up losing not only the church but Jesus too. The challenge is to forgive the church. This challenge is especially great because the church seldom asks us for forgiveness.”

Several times in the New Testament we’re told of how our minds have been blinded and how there are scales on our eyes, “seeing we see not”. How does that work anyway? In part it works because everyone is fighting everyone. Pertinent to this site is the battle between home churches and institutional churches. Neither has a lock on truth: both have enough baggage that the last thing either should do is trash the other.

I started this web site because I want to help those who are looking to establish a home church, with some accountability (don’t read “ruling over“), tax benefits, and overall assistance and means of appeal to their members.

At the same time, I am committed to an institutional church- LRC.

Let’s build one another up. In fact. let’s encourage ALL.

A nation, culture, or a people that are built on an “eye for an eye” will soon find everyone blind!

He who has the mind of Christ offers a heart filled with love. May God increase our vision and eyesight so that we can see the God that dwells within even the lowest and msot base of humans.
