I’m not hinting that you should be running stop signs, driving over the speed limit, or parking in the handicap slot. Of course we have to obey the rules. I am talking about the religious rules! In Col. 3, Paul asks the same question: why are you living by the rules, like don’t do this and don’t do that. And yet the church still harps on and preaches the rule book, so we dutifully (some at least) do our best to follow the rules until it wears us out and someone comes along and says, GIVE IT UP! You can’t do the deal! Continue reading ‘Why Are You Living By The Rules?’
I Cor. 15:46 tells us “first the natural and then the spiritual”. So, let just do it. It seems to me as though there’s a lot of spiritual tremors being felt. When a shaking occurs (due to an earthquake), one of three events is taking place among the tectonic plates (doctrinal foundations?). In the natural they are called extensional, compressional, and transform. Guess which one The San Andreas fault in California is an example of the latter which slide past each other laterally. Why? Continue reading ‘A Shift Is Underway!’
I am sure that you’ve run across many in this world that you’ve chosen to not fellowship with or share many life experiences. It is a big world out there and there are some weird people: many who call themselves Christians. Many.
So, how are you doing still loving the unlovable, the unlikeable, and especially those who consider themselves your enemies? Unfortunately Christianity is not just abiding in ten commandments! Continue reading ‘Joined For His Cause’
Who we run with in large part determines our destiny. I have always tried to out myself into the best of company and when I say that I am not talking about those categories that many would deem elite. I like to associate with people of integrity whose lives speak louder than words. I want to be with those who don’t need constant ego stroking, but more often than not know their weaknesses and work with them. I like people who live on the edge and constantly try to better the world for others- more than themselves. The choices we make of who we are around most of our lives, speaks volumes about whom we will become. Continue reading ‘Birds Of A Feather’
What do you think happens when 140,000 give their life to Jesus and then a year later, none claim Him as their svaior and there isn’t a church in the country? I wonder if that story is true? I’ve heard of the nation where it was to have happened (in Africa). But then, when Billy Graham believes the majority of the people that make a public confession of faith at his evangelism happenings, it could probably happen. Of course there’s always this question. What is salvation anyway? Is it just repeating a few words before a minister, pastor, or church official? Unfortunately that’s what it’s become in most churches in America. Continue reading ‘Saved But Not Discipled?’
I like to look at the big picture of life. While I love to study the details of the Word, I am more of a strategist than and tactician: more of a leader than a manager. I didn’t all of a sudden decide that is what I wanted to BE, I just discovered that was who I WAS! It’s so much easier when you’re not trying to make something fit you: rather, it’s best that you step into what fits Him- your Maker. Continue reading ‘When Does ALL… Not mean ALL?’
Obviously we’re a long way from being where Jesus is calling us. He is being formed in us, but ever so slowly. As I look back over the centuries, I can’t help but see God’s love and mercy continually manifesting itself in our lives. How did we ever escape the Dark Ages? And if the period from 500 to 1500 was not for the highlight reels, can we say that the last 500 have been? I’m afraid not. We’re still looking for many answers, partially because the church doesn’t allow us to ask the questions that will lead us to those answers. Continue reading ‘Still Looking For Answers’
If Christians are intolerant of anything, it’s a person who might question any traditional belief system that they embrace. And, there are many! Where would we be today had Martin Luther not challenged the system, bucked the paradigms, and questioned if there was not a better way? Where indeed? Continue reading ‘I Challenged An Axiom!’
This “thought journey” of an “order“, is a delicate thing indeed. But then, isn’t life? We just don’t cherish it as we should. Nearly twenty years ago, my house burned leaving just the 55 piers that it sat on. One of the messages that I got at that time was that it was a “sign” of fifty five churches that would be united under an apostolic team. Continue reading ‘Twelve & Fifty Five?’
