Where Are The Disciples?

Sunday I was in San Antonio. Monday I was back in Houston. And my wife said to me in an elders meeting  Monday evening, ” I can tell you’ve been with Rick“. She’s said that a lot in the last 19 years. And almost all the time, it’s right after Rick (as in Godwin) and I have been together. You’ll find a similiar statement in the Book Of Acts. Acts 4:13.  Continue reading ‘Where Are The Disciples?’

Scrambled Eggs

Joseph Chilton Pearce wrote a book thirty years ago entitled, The Crack In The Cosmic Egg. It was an off the charts book about spiritual things. I’ve followed him (his writings) now through , I think, about eight books. What was a “crack” back in 76 is now totally scrambled! Every now and then there comes along a man, or woman, who can take us places we totally do not understand. He speak things that resonate within us, but they are so far out there that we’re afraid to do anything but look from afar. Continue reading ‘Scrambled Eggs’

How Many Does It Take?

The national political-military debate is over how many service men we should have in Iraq? Does anyone know? How many righteous people would it have taken to save Sodom & Gommorah? We’ll never know because Abraham stopped at ten (remember Gen. 18?), just when he was on a roll. Isn’t that they way it is on so many thing in life? Continue reading ‘How Many Does It Take?’

Ethnic Cleansing

I am sure very few people have been to Yugoslavia. I spent a couple weeks there in the early seventies: Pula to be exact. It’s a beautiful city at the base of seven hills. It was a very different city when I was there than what it is now. And in fact, the nation, Yugoslavia, no longer exists!

The term ethnic cleansing is a relatively new term that essentially means “population transfer”, by force and whatever means needed: usually gross human rights violations. Another word would be genocide! Continue reading ‘Ethnic Cleansing’

Lone Ranger Theme

“If you see a turtle on a fence post, you immediately know that he didn’t get there by himeslf”. Cute, eh? But, more importantly, it’s an emotional and spiritual truth that we all need to remember. You can’t travel alone- at least not very far. Continue reading ‘Lone Ranger Theme’

A Different Drummer

An example of oxymoron would be that we’re all called, made, and created differently. We each move to the beat of a different drummer, and yet we all march to the beat of One drummer. God did not create any two people the same. You have to believe that He did that on purpose. And you have to wonder why we want to make clones- on purpose! Continue reading ‘A Different Drummer’

Individualism Vs. Collectivism

Hugo Chavez may say “Yankee go home” from the podium at the United Nations; however, this is a country where everyone wants to come. In America, individualism is rewarded, and rugged individualism is highly praised. I would contend though that without the collective social constructs of liberty, freedom, capitalism, and, etc. individualism would not get you very far. Continue reading ‘Individualism Vs. Collectivism’

Life Change With A Faith Community

Change your life in seven day? I don;’t think so; however, that’s the American mentality. We just need a formula, and a quick one at that! More and more people are finding themselves stressed out with life. Just getting through a day seems to be more difficult. And, I’m not talking about the proverbial mid life career change, mid life crisis. Continue reading ‘Life Change With A Faith Community’

The Master

A popular phrase in the last decade has been, who is your daddy? Who owns you? Who has your number? Who are you beholden to? It’s also the title to “B” rated 2003 movie that never made it anywhere. I guess the producer-director didn’t know the answer to the question. But, one of the most important questions that one will decide is, who is your MASTER, as in who is your TEACHER? Continue reading ‘The Master’

New Culture – Cultural Pluralism

‘When the forms of an old cuture are dying, the new culture is created by a few people who are not afraid to be insecure.” Rudolph Bahro. Rudy wasn’t a theologian. He was a German ecologist; however, he understood a major principle that applies to every discipline of life. You don’t have to be one of the insecure, just one who follows or backs them. Continue reading ‘New Culture – Cultural Pluralism’
