Christian Motivation
Why does one choose to become a Christian instead of a Buddhist, Muslim, or Hindu? Obviously the most clear answer is because of where one was born. GEOGRAHY! Now, that sure doesn’t sound like a great reason to be a Christian or join any religion or denomination. So, if we set physical location aside, what’s the motivation?
Why should one become a Christian? The three most common answers are:
1-To esape an eternal hell (which doesn’t exist)
2-So God will love us more (which He can’t)
3-So our sins will be forgiven (and they were before you even thought of them)
The early Catholic church SOLD INDULGENCES. Today’s post modern church SELLS GET OUT OF HELL FREE PASSES! There’s really not a lot of differences here. Come on down (front) and confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you’ll get a HEAVENLY PASS! How cool is that? Cool, just not theologically sound as I see it.
1-While we pay a price for our mistakes here on earth, God didn’t create anyone for eternal hell fire and damnation (whatever that might mean).
2-God’s love is unconditional even though the church preaches and teaches conditional love . God IS love and He loves us regardless.
3-When we pass into the fourth dimension (physically die) it’s a different world where concepts like good, bad don’t exist.
I know this is simply too hard for the church or rewards and punishments and meritocracy based to accept. Hey, how can the church CONTROL people if there’s no literal hell, no rules for rewards and punishments? That is a good question isn’t it? More importantly, how do you answer the question as to why you became, or are, a Christian?
My simple answer is that the unconditional love as demonstrated by Jesus stole my HEART!
