Christological Controversies

Few people even encounter the word, let alone understand it and therein the problem festers. I’m talking about the word CHRISTOLOGY! Christology is a field of study within Christian theology which is concerned with the nature of Jesus the Christ, particularly with how the divine and human are related in his person. Christology is generally less concerned with the details of Jesus’ life than with how the human and divine co-exist in one person. Most Christians believe in what they’ve been taught to BELIEVE, and not only don’t question it, but to stray from it is heresy. Ah, such love!

Ask how the trinity come about and you get a blank stare. Ask a person to explain the trinity and you get an even deeper frown. Not only did Constantine play a major role in what Christians embrace today, but many other emperors as well. Members of various denominations religiously (no pun intended) state and repeat the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and others, swallowing the red pill without question.

Sheep- off to play in the religious playground of ignorance.

Challenge or question a belief and you’re a heretic. At least they don’t burn at the stake those who disagree today. They just slaughter them with gossip and slander. Such action is not only not orthodox, neither is it a great example of orthopraxy. So, most Christians believe in what’s called “Logos Christology“, and have not a clue as to what’s been called for nearly 2,000 years, “Spirit Christology“.

But what were the early Christian to do?

They needed to come up with some sort of supernatural story lest they be burned at the stake themselves for worshiping a MAN. Nowhere does Jesus say we’re to worship Him, just FOLLOW ME! How hard is that? Evidently very hard. Being charged with blasphemy wasn’t a good thing. So, Jesus couldn’t have been just a MAN. It wasn’t good enough that He was the first begotten son of God. It wasn’t good enough that He showed us by His sacrifice that we have life eternal!

And how cool is that fact alone? :-)
Evidently not cool enough because in order to not been seen as worshiping a man, after 400+ years of going back and forth, the official orthodox position was that a Supreme Being “out there” sent a supernatural Son “down here“, to straighten things out. He then took off from the Bethany launching pad around age 33 to go back “out there somewhere” and send yet a third Spirit being to watch over our shoulders.

That’s what is called Logos Christology.

Me, I embrace Spirit Christology. Jesus was a MAN who attained perfection (read Hebrews 5, slowly). He became ONE with the Father in the Spirit, and as a result God resurrected Him from the dead, (but above the resurrection): Jesus entered the Spirit realm (can you say ascended), and is our model who has this message. You too can do it. And you can do even greater (John 14:12) stuff.

Now I can get with that Christology- and do. AM!

Where are you? :-)
I just can’t get there: intellectually or spiritually! :-(
