Noe that would be miraculous wouldn’t it? What young aspiring Muslim wouldn’t blow himself up to get it on in heaven with “Seventy virgins with upright breasts and Allah would give me enough virility for eighty-four years”. Who in the world would believe this story? Well, in 1947, an Islamic Fundamentalists by the name of Anwar Shaikh believed it and went about killing those who did not agree with his “fundamentalism“.
Mohammad Anwar Shaikh (born June 1, 1928 as Haji Mohammad - November 25, 2006).
He was once a religious Islamic fundamentalists but became transformed into what he called a “liberal humanist“, and author of many books. When he reached the age of 25, he began doubting Islam and later became its ardent critic, and memories of his crime have haunted him ever since. Thereafter he immigrated into U.K., married a Welsh woman, and became a successful businessman.
Very few survive the indoctrination of fundamentalism regardless of what religion they profess. Once a fundamentalist, always a fundamentalist is the battle cry. Anwar does provide us with hope.
And I am a moderate example of such hope as well. I was once a fundamentalist, and PROUD of it. I thought the Bible was inerrant! I was taught that. I believed EVERY story in the Bible was LITERAL.
I, like Anwar, have been delivered from literal-fundamentalism, and I am being transformed.
