I am not pretending that I have a “thus saith the Lord” on salvation. I don’t know how any human could know. There are surely some sign posts and clues: however, ultimately you have to leave that to the Lord. And I suspect we have more than a few “angels unaware” in our midst that we’re treating very badly. One day we’ll know for sure, but for now we can only study the Scriptures (II Tim. 2:15) and try to treat each person as Jesus would. But, I do have this thought to share.
I grew up believing many things about the nature of salvation that I no longer embrace.
1-I don’t see salvation is a matter of “believing in right things“. Whose right things?
2-Salvation is not a matter of professing the name of Jesus as Lord & Savior before the church.
3-Surely salvation is not a one time event! In fact, I think we have many ‘conversions‘.
4-I don’t believe that only Christians will be saved. Why would God come up with that plan?
5-I don’t believe everyone has to fulfill John 14:6, while I believe it to be true. Figure that one out. ![]()
6-I believe salvation is grace and grace is beyond religion (the Kingdom has been sown).
7-I don’t believe salvation is a turning from our sins, other than as a bi-product.
I could go on, but you’ve probably read enough to not need any more heresy.
Conversion-salvation is a connecting with God! It’s a ONENESS with God. It is an intimacy with God! A real-live experience- something you own, that has become part and parcel of your life. It all takes place over time- a very, very long time. Oh yes, and it’s always different for everyone so don’t set up any formulas that you’re deeply wedded to. Yes, there are surges from time to time, but there are times when it feels like nothing is going on in your spirit life as well.
God how I love the mystery of it all.
How about you?
Absolutely! I love it! Except when I hate it.
