I don’t speak of people who have left this third dimensional world as someone who has DIED, but someone who has TRANSITIONED. We are energy. In fact EVERYTHING is energy, everything vibrates, and is alive on some frequency level. The body decays but the soul (twenty seven grams?) moves on.
Most conservative Christians, especially in the Bible Belt speak of a transition as well; however, it is nothing like what I embrace.
I don’t see an eternal hell with fire, torment, and anguish. Nor do I see heaven with streets of gold, and angels suspended in the air. Who knows what happens when we leave this third dimensional plane? Those who have had NDE’s (near death experiences), or maybe actual death experiences where all the organs shut down for a lengthy period of time, tell us what the transition was like to them.
Whatever they saw or heard, the bottom line is that death is but a door.
Our energy in this lower vibrational plane gets amped-up to a much higher fourth dimensional and maybe 10-12 dimensions (string theory). What we need to focus on though is the here and now. There is a reason and purpose to life beyond seeking material possessions and physical pleasures, regardless of how good those may be: and they are good! 
As Bertrand Russell wrote, “Without God there is only hopelessness“.
He is speaking about the here and now of course. Where can we go that God-Consciousness is not? In fact is it possible to even separate ourselves from such? I think not and mystics from around the globe voice that, not just the Bible. So, come on IN my friend and don’t be afraid. There’s room for ALL- that’s what LOVE says!
Everything I’ve read agrees with your assessment. It is something I too believe. I no longer fear my arrival at that door, but see it as the opening to another adventure!
