Declaration Of Independence!

“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation….(July 4, 1776).

Today, among all the other exciting and leisurely things that’ll we’ll do, reading the Declaration might be insightful.

>Today we are dependent upon foreign oil.
>Today we are dependent upon the federal government for too much of life.
>Tomorrow we will pay the price for dependence on the Federal Reserve’s money pump.
>Tomorrow our dependence upon external forces over the internal ones will bring much grief.

I could make a very long list of “dependencies and co-dependencies” but why bother? We have been called to produce more not consume. We are called to aspire to greater thing rather than exploit the many things. Today we need to affirm a declaration of independence from pointing fingers, casting blame, living in duality, denying personal responsibilities, and continuing to live in the egoic cocoon of false religions that advocate a separate-ness between Creator and creation (us).

The straight jackets of religious orthodoxy, political sectarianism, philosophical duality, psychological skitzophrenia, and emotional detachments form Mother Nature need to be lifted. We need to awaken to the truth of our being which is divine at the core. May we allow each person to express their views and concepts without an either-or, hammer. We’ve come too far, we’ve sacrificed too much, and we’ve been divided too long.

May we each take time this weekend to make some notes on the bondages that beset us and may we use July 4, 2009 as a launching pad to make a new declaration of independence for our lives such that a light might come forth from the interior of our being and not only guide our steps but be bright enough that others might see as well.

Caution: declaring our independence isn’t an egoic determination; rather, it is a spiritual awakening to the truth of who we ARE: I AM, ONE with ALL!
