Did people really used to live to be 500-900 years old? Or, are those Biblical tales just that- old wise tales? Scientists tell us that everyone of the 50 trillon or so cells in our body are capable of healing themselves. And the two organs of utmost import (heart and brain) have cells that seem to be indestructable in many ways. So, why is our life span in the 70’s range?
While there are all kinds of physical things that affect our hearts, the unresolved emotional wounds are the most destructive.
Don’t you find it interesting that this God of LOVE has given us the organ of HEART of such incomprehensible power that goes beyond words? And when you think of the functionality of the brain, is it not strange that the first organ that’s developed while in the womb is the heart? Who knows!
The Old Testament accounts tell us of men who not only lived hundreds of years, but their lives were full of vitality at advanced ages. Noah started building the ark at age 600. Say what? You wouldn’t want to kick sand in his 600 year old face. It’s the soul! Clearly, but not yet definitively captured, we see the soul and it’s unresolved hurts and emotional wounds that’s most dangerous to the heart. Very dangerous!
When our soul hurts, we transfer that pain to the body.
Forgiveness, love and mercy are not just good human traits that will advance the ability of society to get along and live in harmony, but they are concepts that give us extended life. So, I come to the conclusion that 70-100 years is about all the time that the heart can endure our unforgiveness, judgments, and un-released emotional wounds. What we sow, we reap.
But let me take us to the HEART of this matter (pun intended).
We are separated from our source of life- the Creator! We are not ONE with God as we should be. Our soul and spirit is wounded with the pain of being “other than” what we were created to be. If you want to live longer, we must love deeper, forgive more fully, and spend more of our days with the ONE who IS LIFE!
