Flesh Vs. Spirit Historically

Once upon a time, centuries ago, myths were accepted without having to think through the logic, if any. Then along comes the scientific age, the age of reason, and the age of diversity. People no longer buy into what was once not even questioned. The church has to change its act, its approach, and dialogue with the world. And, it’s a good thing.

Who Wants Cheaper Insurance?

What we say in human language must be discriminated from that which we say in the Spirit. That I don’t believe in the literalness of the Fall or the virgin birth does not mean I don’t believe in them on a another, and what I contend is a deeper level- a truthful level.

It’s this simple-

The story of the creation of man and the fall is a myth with turth that we need to hear; however, it is not information about anthropology, whih fundamentalism has tried to make it. And few believe them. The Fall is a powerful story at the level of the Spirit!

A similiar position can be taken on the story of the virgin birth which on the spiritual level communicates a truth that cannot be denied about the initiative of God in the affairs of man. But to try and make it information about gynaecology is to make people laugh at best, and walk away at worst.

I don’t need to defend the metaphors and truths and one cannot defend the so-called facts and anthopology and gynaecology.

Spirit trumps flesh!
