I spent way too much time in church listening to “hell fire & damnation” messages. I heard too many sermons on our sinful nature and our need to REPENT! But, the good news is that I ESCAPED!
I understand that there is a balance to many things.
I also understand that you can FOCUS too much of your life on that which keeps you in bondage. I can’t tell you how many times I have read Phil. 4:8 and yet like a dog going back to his puke (what a terrible sounding-visualizing word), I was drawn back into the OLD MAN concepts of sin.
What was there about Phil. 4:8 that I was missing: what was not resonating deeply enough? It’s simple. Think on those things that are good, right, lovely, admirable, God! Maybe you could use a reminder that GOD IS LOVE: without any ifs, ands, or buts. There’s no qualifiers in I John 4:8. God simply IS LOVE.
And, we’re told that love covers a multitude of sins.
Just in case you need reminding about the things that you need to FOCUS on, let these Scriptues go deep into your psyche, soul, and SELF.
A-Prov. 16:6 By mercy inequity is purged
B-James 2:13 Mercy triumphs over judgment
C-Rom. 5:20 Where sin abounds, grace abounds more
D-Acts 10:34 God is no respecter of persons (Rom. 2:11)
E-II Cor. 12:9 My grace is sufficient
F-Heb. 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you (Joshua 1:5)
G-II Tim. 2:13 God can only respond to its nature. It (use the word God here if that makes you feel better) cannot deny itself (Herself?)- it cannot be other than what it is!
If this seems too far out of balance then go back and read some Old Testament God-killing stuff, but come back to this thought- We are locked in an unbreakable orbit of divine love whose hold we cannot escape.
FOCUS!
