Jesus said on several occasions- Follow Me! Paul affirmed that it would be a good thing to do by writing to us in I Corinthians 11:1 that we should only follow him (Paul) as he was following Jesus. While this all sounds good, maybe even easy to do, have you ever asked yourself what was in a person’s mind when they told you that they were just following JAY-ZUS? What’s it mean to follow Jesus, the Christ?
Let me give you a list for starters. Following Jesus sometimes means-
>Observing denominational and church rules
>Obeying the ten commandments
>Leading an ethically pure life
>Going to church regularly and being a good religious person
>Having good manners and being polite
And yet, making some parallel comparisons the the five above
>Jesus didn’t come to start a church, let alone a denomination
>Jesus gave us two commandments not ten
>Jesus sure didn’t follow the ethical life of the religious Pharisees
>Jesus was spiritual, not religious
>Jesus didn’t wash His hands before eating and he sure wasn’t polite to his parents.
Need we go any further than saying FOLLOWING JESUS means having a relationship with the Father all throughout the day- not just in the morning or before bedtime. Call it prayer, meditation, contemplation, or just a focus on “hearing”, it’s what Jesus did constantly. He lived His life to KNOW what it was that the Father wanted Him to do each and every day- throughout the day.
Are you following Jesus?
A little maybe?
