Fossils & Fairy Tales

A fairy tale is a fictional story that usually features folkloric characters (such as fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, witches, giants, and talking animals) and enchantments, often involving a far-fetched sequence of events. In modern-day parlance, the term is also used to describe to something blessed with unusual happiness. But what about fossils? Fossils (from Latin fossus, literally “having been dug up“) are the mineralized or otherwise preserved remains or traces (such as footprints) of animals, plants, and other organisms.And….?

I used to believe in some Biblical fairy tales, which is different than believing in myths.

I also used to believe that the earth was 6,000 years old. Carbon dating was a lie (I don’t know how), historians were deceived (I wasn’t told how), and those fossils that were found in rocks were planted there by God to make us think the earth was older. Say what? Yep, I believed all that………..once upon a time in a religious paradigm far, far away (thank God).

Can you believe I believed those things?

Many still do so I better go a little easy here.

Many still believe in the virgin birth. Speaking out of both sides of the mouth at the same time, Jesus is human but He isn’t human. Huh? Yep, that’s what I was told also. I never knew how it worked and surely no one with a brain would ask why! It wasn’t just the Catholics for god’s sake, Martin Luther propagated (no pun intended) the same story line when he said, “By nature Jesus is Mary’s child, yet He has spiritual flesh”. What in god’s name is that?

Spiritual flesh?

Oh yeah, it’s a fairy tale! Now I get it! :-)
