The word GOD is primarily a Christian creation.
The Creator of the universe has many names and varies greatly from religion to religion. Within the Christian community though there are two paradigms are embraced and they are miles apart. Let’s briefly examine these two concepts.
1-God Is A PERSON:
God is a male being who is beyond this world, the universe as we know it. God created everything that exists. He is the architect, designer, and builder of all. In other words, sometimes without even knowing it, we understand God to thus be separate from His creation.
2-God Is A PRESENCE:
God is ONE with all, with everything. God is beyond pantheism and even beyond panentheism. There isn’t a place the presence of God isn’t. This presence permeates everything and even if our minds can’t get a handle on it, this presence is beyond space and time (even time-space).
As people on this planet and as people of the Christian faith the movement is from PERSON to PRESENCE. The great hymns of old no longer work of make sense (God in three persons, blessed trinity). That said, we sgtill have a huge segment of Christians that have subconsciously bought in to the God as descibed in the dictionary: a Supreme Being (ie. person).
The “garden story” no longer works for most people. We can’t be kicked out of the garden, separated from the Creator because as Joel Goldsmith used to say, “God is closer than the breath in our nostrils.” But that flies in the face of the Lord’s Prayer, “Our Father which art in heaven”.
Say what?
