Gods Love!

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray thee Lord my soul to take. There are so many things that we did and were taught as kids, that drive our lives today, even if just subconsciously, the impact is still the same. For so many years I was driven by the echoes in my head, from my Sunday School teacher, “Be a good boy and God will love you”.

Most know that somewhere the Bible says that God is love. We’ve heard that phrase (it’s actually found twice I John 4). God love is the best love. There’s no comparison.

How is it that we can read the Bible and not see that Jesus was not looking for sin or sinners and yet that’s the number one in door sport of the church. How is it that Jesus was always looking to help the suffering and the outcast, while the church shuns the outcast?

The answers to life are not found in some weird chant, religious practice, self-abasement, or calling down angels from heaven. Answers are found every time we decide to love, commit an act of love, or simply BE LOVE! Since God is love, when we are loving we are being Him. I know, that makes too much sense and doesn’t appeal to our warrior side.

The Bible is love poetry. The Bible is a book of love letters. The Bible is the story of a Father’s love for His Son, and the Son’s love for His Father. The cross is the greatest example of loving others so much that you lay down your life for them. Why have we made being a Christian so complex and difficult? Why have we become so prejudiced and intolerant? I’ll love him, but not her. I’ll love Protestants but not Catholics. I’ll love heterosexuals but not homosexuals. I’ll love Israelis but not Shiites.

Jesus refused to be the Messiah that the Jews were looking for. He refused to be the warrior that would kill all of Israel’s enemies and restore righteousness to their land. Jesus is still refusing today to kill our enemies, to hate those of a different culture, and to turn away from the suffering.

If you are a Christian, how can you do anything less? Let us be God’s love more and more, each day!
