All my life I believed that “Jesus Saves“. The Star Of Hope Mission had a large neon sign that said that. I remember that because it was there to a rowdy bunch of drunks that I preached for the first time. I thought it was preaching! But last year I learned something very odd- Hell saves! You read that right. Here’s the logic my friend.
A family that had been a apart of my congregation for more than a decade finally couldn’t take it any more. They’d been growing restless with some of my “thoughts on God“; however, when I said there was n eternal tormenting hell- that was enough! Never mind that I agreed that God was just, that there would be divine judgment for all, taking away hell was- well, just a hellish idea.
Now get this!
They were leaving because if I didn’t agree that hell was eternal anguish, I’d be inviting people to sin. I we took away hell there would be nothing to keep people straight.
Say what?
I mean, pastor and preachers have been threatening people with eternal damnation for 2,000 and how’s that been working church? Reading the newspapers, and watching TV, it appears to me that the threat of hell isn’t being all that effective.
But, here’s the trump card. Here is the message behind the massage. We need the threat of hell to talk people into giving their life to Jesus. Hell Saves! I’m sorry, but if the love of God doesn’t bring people to Jesus, I think the world is doomed.
God’s love is amazing grace!
And no eternal hell is just another proof! ![]()
