Homo Sapiens or Homo Spiritus?

Dave Hawkins uses the term homo spiritus in one of his many books. I don’t know if it’s a valid word, but it sure makes a point for me. So much of what the institutional church is doing thse days is competing with the church down the street. And the offerings are getting wilder and wilder. This does not mean that the entertainment is bad, it’s good. But, the programs are all geared to uplifting and benefitting our humahood.

Humanhood?

What IF, and that’s a really big IF, man (woman) could somehow fulfill ALL of the ten commandments? Or, what if mankind could follow all of the Jewish laws (impossible I know) to a “T“? If that was the only requirement than what we’d have is human being on a higher level of civil living. Homo sapiens with class! :-)
But, what God is looking for is something more akin to homo spiritus: men and women who are being led and ruled by their spirit. Now we’re talking about something that can change the world and bring the Kingdom to a neighborhood near you. The institutional church CAN do that, IF it changes and quits trying to offer a country club atmosphere whereby people pay dues to receive special services.

The role of the church is transformation!

My definition of transformatiom is the same as Robert Mulholland. A process of being conformed to the image of God for others. It seems to me that it can be obtained in the institutional church or home church. What’s the heart of the leaders? Know that and you’ll know the potential for transformation. :-)
