I Challenged An Axiom!

If Christians are intolerant of anything, it’s a person who might question any traditional belief system that they embrace. And, there are many! Where would we be today had Martin Luther not challenged the system, bucked the paradigms, and questioned if there was not a better way? Where indeed?

Once upon a time church was difficult. And then it got worse:-)
As the Holy Spirit began nudging me to ask some questions, it all seemed so innocent, until the questions went really, really deep! Sometimes you just want to forget about asking any serious questions, go along with the crowd, accept the status quo, and be liked (at least a little?).

We go nowhere doing it like that you know!

Albert Einstein was asked why he departed from the Newtonian view of physics. His answer was “I simply challenged an axiom“. An axiom is an “established rule or principle.” Later on those axioms might be proven wrong, but that’s later. Another way to look at it is that an axiom is what culture believes to be true. Ahh, but we’re cultureshapers! Aren’t we?

You know things like the church must meet Sunday morning! :-)
Hell is eternal torment and torture! :-(
Salvation isn’t a simple confession, but transformation!

The church is supposed to provide children’s education, youth training, musical entertainment, coffee shops, and you name it. The mega churches keep stretching the boundaries of “requirements” for a large church that seem more akin to a country club membership: bowling alley, gymnasium, cafeteria, work out areas, running track, and even a small theatre.

You have to compete with the world you know.

And this is how the church does that? Really!

Isn’t it time that someone, like maybe you, me, our friends started questioning just how much of what the church does, it is really supposed to be doing? Isn’t it still okay to challenge  any and all axioms (to see if they be true), even if they are church and religious axioms?

Especially church axioms!

I read somewhere that people will not naturally make quantum leaps in innovation if left to themselves. While there is a place for “line upon line” thinking, the kind of change that you’re talking about represents a more radical, “quantum leap” in thinking that quite simply can’t happen on our own. ie, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us now more than ever! That is the only way we will make the “quantum leap” BACK to what He originally had in mind for the church.

I so appreciate your willingness to STOP, draw near and LISTEN (Ecc. 5:1). before you LEAP! :)

Many would say I never stop. Glad there’s ONE who realizes I study, ponder, count the cost, test drive, and then act (5 minutes later). :-)

Is that what all those books I take to you, when UPS and FedEx deliver them, are for? You have TWO that realizes you study, ponder, etc.; then act. That is why I trust your leading. I SEE a man after God’s own heart; like David.

I only wish I were more devoted, but I am making progress.
