Ah, the arrogance of the Western civilized world! We with the super technology, vast wealth, and exponentially growing intellect are far superior to the poor shabbily dressed and ignorant humans of the back countries and mountainous wilderness. Or so we think, until we take time to visit those whom we really don’t know.
The term “indigenous” can be used to describe any ethnic group of people who inhabit a geographic region with which they have the earliest known historical connection, alongside more recent immigrants who have populated the region and may be greater in number. In other words, they’ve been around for a long time and have traditions that have been passed down for centuries!
They not stupid!
Even without a written language, native people have preserved their history through stories, rituals, monuments, songs, and legends. News flash: one doesn’t have to have a BOOK (can you say Bible?) to pass on spiritual truths! So, many of the native North American indigenous people walk in great universal truths.
>The Navajo speak of a living, animating force that permeates the entire universe.
>The Aborigines live not only real time but dream time.
>The Lakota says there is no such thing as “emptiness” anywhere within the universe.
>The Koyukon believe that we are all a part of one another.
>The Ohlones believe that every act in the universe was orchestrated by the Creator.
But since these natives have no scientific instruments, no GPS, nor iPhones , what can they bring to the table that we should know? They know Father sky and Mother earth. In essence, they KNOW GOD. They don’t need access to THINGS, nor STUFF to walk in unity with creation or the Creator.
And, neither do we!
