Information vs. Transformation

I have spent more than five decades studying the sacred Christian text known as the Bible. I say sacred, not infallible or inerrant text as the fundamentalists claim. For me the main purpose of the Bible is not to give us scientific or historical information (while it does), but to bring about transformation in our lives and society.

I give credit to Tobin Hart for his 2000 book that covered the information-transformation analysis.

True transformation comes as a result of following the one whom we take our characterizations from- Jesus, the Christ. To do so means more than an intellectual assent, more than philosophical lip service, and more than denominational purity. We can no longer do what Jesus didn’t (rail against homosexuality), and not do what He said (do not commit violence).

At the core of the “information” dialogue and bias is a satus quo mentality that looks for affirmation on every front while putting a heretic label on any who disagree. Paul addressed this by saying that we cannot go the way of the norm, the establishment of the day, or the philosophy that seems right. It’s almost as though whatever the majority is thinking is the opposite of what’s right: what Jesus is advocating.

1-Jesus died for ALL not just for a few.
2-Hell is not eternal though many want it to be.
3-God is not a capitalist, nor a socialist.

True transformation is a heart transplant and an identity transplant that reveals the Christ that resides within us, the image of God within which we are created!
