Intimacy
You can HEAR the entire Sunday message after Shawn posts it sometime Monday; however, I want to take tonight to add a few things I HEARD but did not SAY!
John 8:32 offers us what we’re all looking for, but we feel (as they did) that we an do it our way, even though Jesus reminds us that it can only be done His way! We are a nation that has it all. Or, so it would seem. Compared to the rest of the world, what we have seems almost unimaginable and unattainable.
Living by comparison can be dangerous!
If looked at from the right perspective; however, comparisons can be motivating. I know, I have been. For decades I have read the promises offered to me by the Bible. And I’ve always found some excuse as to why my life isn’t matching up to what it appears I’m being offered. Healings aren’t for today. I’m not exercising enough faith. Miracles were for a different dispensation. I’ve got sin in my life. Excuses or reasons abound, and yet one thing you don’t hear is that you’re not walking in truth!
Truth?
When I walked out of my denominational neighborhood nearly twenty years ago, I realized (not over night though) that I had been of a mindset that had little to do with Biblical reality. After more than two decades of being taught the Word, by some of the best my denomination had to offer, I was far from my spiritual home. I’d never heard of the five-fold ministry, apostolic government, Davidic worship, hermeneutics, tongues, meditation, contemplation, discerning of spirits, etc. But you know, I think I could live without all of those: as important as they really are.
What I could not live without though was INTIMACY! Maybe it just wasn’t a man-thing. Maybe I was too young and naive. Maybe I just wasn’t ready. I am now. If there ever was a job # 1 it is to love God with all your heart. It should be the heart’s desire of every one who calls themselves a Christian. How could one who is an under shepherd do less? I pray I do not. I desire to lead the way into His presence. What greater calling is there?
