German philosopher Karl Jaspers coined the term, "Axial Age", to describe the period from 800-200 BCE, during which time a worldwide expansion of consciousness took place, forever changing religion, philosophy, mathematics, art and the way we see the world today. Is the human race undergoing such a spiritual metamorphosis once again? It’s Him Again!
Most people will not recognize the title above as that of a book by the same name. The author is not well known, nor would anyone probably recognize this Dutchman who goes by the name of Cornelius van Peursen. His point is one all too often missed by a church that wants to draw lines in the sand and say who is OUT and who is IN. Not allowing people to share in or take communion makes no sense to me. Is the Eucharist only for Roman Catholics, and what’s the need to make second class citizens out of those who don’t profess Catholic beliefs? Second-class citizens can’t take the wafer, but must cross their chest with their hands and receive instead a blessings. They are “marked” as outside the Holy Roman Catholic heirarchy. Such division and separation that’s not needed at all. Not at all!
But I submit to you that you will find God in ALL things- not because I say so, but because He did and still does.
We’re still getting better at understanding God. We’re still increasing our spiritual consciousness about spiritual matters. We’re still discovering and unearthing manuscripts that give us insight to the days when Jesus lived. God isn’t changing and doesn’t change; however, what we’re learning is- and, that makes all the difference in the world.
Remember, once upon a time He was the “God of Abraham“. And then He was the “God of Isaac“. And later still the “God of Jacob“. Do you see it? God is everywhere. God has been places that we did not know about, nor did we think it.
I’ts Him again.
And the best thing that we can do is not to try and define God and put Him on the shelf, or build a creed that we think can somehow hold Him, characterize Him, and capture His essence. Oh no, not by a long shot! The best I can do is point to a man (Jesus, the Christ) and say, there’s what God is like, what God is all about, the one to whom we’re to follow! May we share the reality and experience Him. Theological constructs defining Him are so weak after all.
You ok with that?
