Jesus Who?

In many ways, Christians are not following Jesus, the Christ but Paul and a lot of the early church fathers. I’m not saying that any of them didn’t have anything to say, but I find it strange when I relate to people the actual true HISTORY of how the Bible was put together and who really influences most of it. Let me give you a couple of quick examples.

Paul gets most of the credit for our church doctrine and in so many ways he is vastly different than Jesus! Paul wrote something like 2/3rds of the New Testament and when it comes to church doctrine, churches follow PAUL and not JESUS!

Paul was the leader.

All four of the gospels were written after Paul had written many of his books and his influence had to be felt, if not followed. And strange as it may seem, Paul never mentions the gospels in his later books. Never! I’m sure that we can forgive him of that, but how about this one. He never mentions anything actually attributed to what Jesus said. Never!

And who are we following? How about the trinity?

That would be Irenaeus (bishop of Lyons), Tertullian of Carthage, and Clement of Alexandria.

Those three early church fathers are responsible for our (a) fixed dogma, (b) theological system, and (c) structures where individual interpretation has no standing. Can you say catholicism (small c).

So, tell me once again. Are you following Jesus, the Christ, of Nazareth or someone else?  :-)
