Love Is Not Weakness!

As a young man I saw all these church people as weak, sniffling, and milk-toast kind of people that I didn’t want to be like. No way. Well, in some ways I have become just like them, but in other ways I have not. I remember the last few lines in the movie We Were Soldiers- (Mel Gibson). While the returning vets from Viet Nam were scorned by the public, it didn’t matter. Soldiers know what civilians don’t. The man with a rifle in his hand isn’t fighting for his country as much as he is fighting for the man on either side of him: the man behind him and the man in front. If they die, he’ll probably die. If only the CHURCH could hear, get that! You probably don’t want to hear this, but that means dying to save homosexuals, abortionists, and the arrogantly religious.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 – 1945) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, participant in the German Resistance movement against Nazism, and a founding member of the Confessing Church. He said, “The God of the Bible wins power and space in the world by His weakness.” What charismatic church wants to hear that?

From the day that I printed a small yellow card that carried the five principles that Richard Rohr imparted to me, a resistance could be felt. Oh yes, people would agree that………

1-Life is hard
2-I am not important
3-Life is not about me
4-I am not in control
5-I am going to die.

But in their everyday life, there was no submission. The more powerful the man or woman, the less they accept the principles. The richer the person (you know what the Bible says about that), the less they need to be dependent on God for their dailt needs. And then there’s the church. The church is more into orthodoxy than orthopraxy! Not all, but a whole bunch! :-(

David Hawkins wrote a very difficult book to read entitled, Power vs Force. We Americans do things by FORCE! We have the best military FORCES in the world. Jesus did things by POWER- the power of love. Come on, ask yourself the real questions. What king would die the death that Jesus did, and who could conceive of such a plan for victory?

God is just! And that means that any hell can’t be eternal!
God is love! And that means that grace is greater than judgment.
God is merciful and forgiving! And that means what you think is fair isn’t going to work out the way you’d like.

I don’t care how LOST you are, by whatever definition you want to apply to the word; however, there’s One who knows exactly where you ARE, and He’s there with you to lead you back to the being you were created for. If you don’t know how to respond, I think I might be able to help you.

At least I know of One who can! :-)

  • Now that’s what I call the GOOD NEWS!!! That I AM is waiting ever so patiently for us to respond, ever calling us, ever beckoning, prodding, and compelling us to recognize there is MORE!

If we could only even dip our toes into the waters of that “beingness” that we already are, we would catch at least a glimpse of a something greater, and life would never be lived the same.
I’ve come to find that we are all lost to some degree for this very purpose….if not for anything but for the joy of being FOUND!!! And in that process of being found, every moment would offer a new and mysterious treasure just waiting to be unlocked….to be let loosed from within our very Selves.

  • Sometimes He’s so anxious He doesn’t even wait for our response! :-)
