Luther Time?

The 39 hour Rite Of Calling , fast, sharing, teaching, and time of solitude was more than interesting and revealing. I’ve seen quick-fixes. I’ve lived quick repentances, and seen them leave just as quickly. As one man testified before the church today, “I’ve been touched by God, but this time I was transformed by the truth”. The true always set us free. The problem is that we don’t know what that truth really is. I am afraid we have drifted too much into decades of tradition, man-made doctrines, and practices that blind us to the truth. Isn’t it time for another Martin Luther to come forward and get us “jump-started” again?

Entire generations of people no longer know what is truth and what’s not.

I am afraid we have been, and still are, misrepresenting God. I constantly hear this vocie saying “Tell the people the truth about me. Tell the people that I am more than loving- I AM LOVE! Tell the people of how merciful, forgiving, and full of grace I am. Tell them the GOOD NEWS!”

And to think, I thought I was. What person of the cloth, teacher of the Word, student of the Bible doesn’t think that they’re doing exactly that? However, if I am hearing right, it’s not being done. Dang!

So, where does one begin?

The Holy Spirit of course, but that can get flaky and out of control unless there are a group of men who also agree with what one is saying. And then there has to be some “authoritative accountability“. Can you say apostolic oversight (and that’s been abused big time as well) or pastoral submission to someone of your choice? It’s not as simple as the Catholic Church selling indulgences as it was in Luther’s time. What I sense now is more like an umbilical cord to the false god of corporate ego: denominationalism, institutionalism, and mega-message hype that is merchandized so as to make the authors and peddlers millions.

Bishops of old who lived in castles of their secular providers, have been replaced by religious TV-gods who opt for privacy in their gated communities of multi-million dollar homes. Can this be the kind of shepherds He is looking for? Is the God who fashioned our very being honestly being represented by messages and messengers that build our egos, tell us how great we can be (instead of how great He is), promising us all prosperity, wealth, and health?
