Who is your god? Are you really able to say, to know? This web site is my meager and weak attempt to express and put into words who My Jesus and My God are. I am so thankful to so many people who have opened doors to God that had handles I was too short to reach. I have also been able to stand on the shoulders of so many that have lifted me up so I could see beyond even where they had sight. I pray that I can return the favor to others, and that one day there would be a generation that could truly do greater miracles than Jesus: as He prophecied.
It is scary to think that I, and each one of us, have made images of God that are different that the reality of the one true God. We have most often unknowingly and unwittingly created false idols. In Gustave Flaubert’s book, A Simple Heart, his main character, Felicite loses her pet parrot that has become as a child to her. So, when it dies, she has it stuffed. She prays daily before it.
We may not have stuffed parrots, but we have our man made god. And they are most often plural: false idols. We have chilseled out of various images in our mind this God, this man called Jesus. In our mid eye, we’ve taken an earthly image (usually from culture in some way- movies, novels, paintings, etc.) and transformed it into a divinity that we think is the real deal.
I think Karl Marx saw more than we do. He saw religion is the opiate of the people. The god that they created came out of their hurts, despair, and woundings. Too often religion mirrors the culture it marinates in for decades. There is a God, but how different is He from the one we have created? That’s what drives me to prayer, meditation, and pleading with God. I want to be His serevant. I want Him to be my Lord (can you saw master?), but have I made it easy on myself over the years because that’s how humanity works?
Isaiah told us that a couple thousand years ago when he said in chapter 55 and verse 19, “My ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are not your thoughts”. BINGO!
What am I deceived about? Anything? Key things? Or, trivial things?
Is this God that religion and I have made, the real deal?
