I do not see that God’s mission was for Jesus to be crucified, though an all-knowing and all-seeing God would know that in advance. That’s a separate topic for another day. But, God also has seen what’s going to happen to you and I- no different than God’s foreknowledge of Jesus. So, what is this mission accomplished that Jesus performed?

Jesus was to be a fully human being, living life in the environment to which he was birthed and going about life as we know it. Therein he would be no different than us, know the trials that we face, and learn from obedience- which can be more than difficult.

His marching orders we not to be crucified, nor did God do or demand it. We humans were mroe than capable of killing Jesus and the odds are good that if he came back today, we’d do it all over again. The names of the killers would not be Pharisees or Romans, but %#$^& and @(*%^. I leave out the real names so that I’ll offend fewer than are already offended.

The crucifixion of Christ was not a penalty inflicted by God, but the result of human sin.The cross represents the wrath and judgement of God not directly but indirectly. God “gives us up” (Romans 1:24, 26, 28) to the consequences of our destructive desires and actions. The human condition with which Christ identified himself in life, and to which God “gave him up” (Romans 8:32), and to which we (with Judas) betrayed him ( Mark 3:19), in death.

In His obedience to non-violence, to love and not retaliation, Jesus faced the reality of living in world of sin and death was the result. But, God! God honored the faith of Jesus and brought Him back to lfie therein showing the world the power and love of God that’s extended to all of us.

Seek and you shall find…………the most incredible love that’s beyond words!
