The church is stuck in a rut and the people love it so. The State loves it as well. It seems that almost everyone is happy, but truth isn’t being served. The church is caught up in SIN MANAGEMENT which has some degree of social control tied to is so the state leaves the church alone for fear of what might happen were the threat of hell and forgiveness of sins not made readily available. Look at this process a little more closely.
Salvation is the church answer for sin!
Sin is some form of moral error that keeps us from God.
The redemptive act of Jesus on the Cross clears our record, becomes like and Bush-Clinton pardon, and we’re back in “good standing” with God.
It’s a theme that sells well. More than two billion people say they are Christians (of some flavor or another). What this says is that there is inherent in man a deep-seated need for such forgiveness because we know as humans we have great moral failing(s). So, Christianity has within it’s structure an answer to human guilt!
The Cross!
While this is GOOD NEWS, there is BETTER NEWS!. I know that in just saying that I am going against the grain of the religious paradigm that needs everyone to stay within the religious box. We must all obey our church dictates, lest they lose control.
Salvation offers us hope, but not so that we can go out and continue living as we did in the past and come back to the church altar for more forgiveness: which is what we see over and over again. There is more, far more.
As Richard Smoley put it, “Asking help of a higher power and making amends to those we have harmed are parts of the process; they are not the whole of it. To believe that sin and redemption constitute the whole of the spiritual path puts too much focus on SIN!
Well, duh! And that’s where the church lives.
